I picked up a 1984 250R that runs great!!! But the head gasket is leaking I am actually suprised it even runs. There is exhaust coming from the head.
My questions are

Has anyone had this problem before?

Can I just retorque the head bolts?

Should I replace the gasket?

Any advice and info would be great

Thanks in advance
Chad

well the head gasket are just plan copper with out a crush gasket so they are reusable you might want a new one anyways there cheap but your problem probably is you head is warped so if you just take it off and bring it to a machine shop they will fix that for you.

Just replace it. If it leaks and runs lean you'll blow the top end and melt the piston. Head gasket on a two stroke can be done real quick. You want to remember that most gaskets require checking the torque after installing them and running them for a while.

Check the head to make sure its not warped. Make sure when you put it on and take it off to follow the proper torque sequence. If the head is warped it is possible the cylinder is too, just make sure to check it. Could be as simple as a bad head gasket.

Remember its winter so you'll want to re-jet, could have got too hot and blown the gasket if you didn't re-jet.

Thanks for the info!

Where is the cheapest place to get that gasket?

Bikebandit.com wanted $26 for it.

If you got a Honda dealership close I would check them, usually the part will get there a little quicker, if you're in a hurry to ride. Just depends on the dealership, if it was just one thing it was cheaper to get from the dealership since they didn't charge shipping.

I had the issue over and over with my 250r!!!N we resurfAced the head over and over but had issues with studs and threads holding. Blew out two motors when the copper gasket gave way due to poor gasket sealing. Good luck, air cooled r 's are trouble sometimes lol
