Just make sure it goes through all the gears nicely as they do have gearbox problems/look for engine case damage/no weird noises coming from the motor and make sure all the swing-arm bearings are all tight and not flogged out other then that there a good bike to ride.

Check for stress cracks around foot pegs , make sure the shifter is tight. Shift shaft isn't stripped out , just to replace that the whole motor has to come out of the bike. To get the motor out of these you have to remove the swingarm ,pretty much tear the whole bike apart to get the motor out. That's what i'm going through right now , Other than that my 84R screams !

Make sure when you get it home, do a few plug chops.

Never trust previous owner's jetting.

I just got my 250r, and before i plan to do any more riding (waiting for parts, so its sitting) i am going to do a few plug chops to make sure that spark plug is a nice tan/brown.

for $900 you really can't go wrong (in the Ontario market). I wouldn't be too picky, no matter what you find wrong with it. But look for the usual suspects - loose front/rear axle bearings, loose swinger bearing, brake pads, chain, sprockets, etc.

HAVE FUN!!!! If that thing runs and it comes with a parts bike for $900 you are LAUGHIN!

so i drove out to look at this 250r today. lol what a pice of s**t everything was broken bent or had been welded up with the biggest welding rod you could get lol, i asked the guy will it starts? answers oh ya man first kick ,15 kicks later and a shot of quick start. took it for a ride down his road didnt want to go into 2nd gear. very thing i found wrong with it, no breaks, no air filter, shifter was bent to hell and was welded to the shaft, suspension was busted on both ends, no lights, no kill switch, fender were busted up and a 1'-1/4 x 1'-1/4 steal bar welded to the frame. I asked hem about the engine, what had he done to it, greatest line ever i hoand out the cyclinder to .50 lmfao, and the guy wont move on the price lol
