Been looking for a model for the wife who's adventurous but a newbie.
Mostly was suggested 200 or a 250 SX, what about this 185???

Found a 185S, pict attached.
Anyone know what to look for?? what to stay away from?? what this model is with a odd tank and no stickers???

Seems to be all there and only 200$
Is it shaft or chain, I don't know much about these.

ADVICE????

The 185 is not that much different the the 200s. It is chain drive. That tank maybe an aftermarket Clarke tank. Almost looks like a Tecate tank lol. Pick the rear end up and shake it around to see if the rear bearings are tight. Make sure it has good compression and check for spark if possible. I would say that you are really safe at the $200 price. It is over 30 years old so it will need some $$ invested. I would snag it for that price. Looks like it will clean up pretty well.

Just my $.02.

It looks to be in good shape under all the dust!

You can swap front ends on the 185. I believe(and please correct me if I am wrong) that the 84-86 200s suspension front ends will bolt right on. I think that some year 200x front ends are interchangeable as well.

i believe you have to change your bump stos and such with the 200x ftont end...plan on some welding...i hear that the 185 is a bit quicker than the 200s but not as much torque...

200x front end will not fit without changing the stem or cutting frames.

This is a great buy for you, but not what your wife wants to ride. This will make her not want to go with you. Get her some suspension. This is a great donor for her an auto X.
