Are the carb bodies the same? Just different jetting? Or are the carbs totally different? I got home with my carb rebuild kit and they ordered me one for an 86-87 250ES. Didn't notice till I got home. My jets are fine and the trike runs great. Mostly ordered it because my float bowl gasket is leaking. Mines an 85 250ES. If the gaskets will work that's really all I need.

'86-'87 had the "cold start kit" inside...

I thought they were the same, minus the jets, just wanted to make sure before I took anything apart, since I don't have a garage anymore. The gasket kit came up with a different part number on bikebandit, but the carbs look identical. As long as the float bowl and main gaskets are good then I'll be all set.

the cold start jet is different.
on 85 (QA01) it screws in from the bottom like all the others.
86 87 have a rubber plug in that spot and the jet screws in from the side.
One of the jets has an 'easy to miss' emulsion tube under one of them and is hard to see but comes out easily , if you go that far.
Wish I could tell you about the bowl gaskets (sorry) maybe cross reference part numbers somehow?
Maybe call honda or somewhere else to see if they sell the gasket separately?

Gasket numbers according to Honda are different numbers, that's why I asked. Honda sells gasket kits but costs more than the aftermarket carb kit. Just don't really feel like taking it back and waiting a couple days if it will work.

I just stopped my buddies carb from leaking. Was leaking from the same gasket on an 84 BR. Used non hardening gasket maker that is resistant to oil and gas. Not a long term fix, but it's been working for 5 days now & 2 rides. I only used it around the outside of the top & bottom of the original oring, just a tiny bit, & on the outside so when it squishes, it squished out. It'll get you to riding while you're waiting for the rebuild kit. Where did you get an aftermarker carb kit. Just 3 orings on bike bandit cost $15.

It runs and rides great. Its just a small seeping. Just bugs me. I feel I shouldn't need to shut the gas off on a Honda unless I am planning on not using it for an extended period of time. I got it at the local aftermarket shop. Almost any place that sells sleds, dirt bikes, or anything ATC/ATV related should have a supplier that can get an aftermarket carb kit, as long as they want to take the time to look in the book.

If it bugs you that much, you can take off your old one and lay it on top of the new kit and see if it matches. without even opening it (the kit) up.
Maybe they'll take it back if it's unopened?
You might be lucky

They'll take it back, they are good to me, its why I deal with local shops. I just live out in the sticks and its 40 miles round trip. Don't really need the jets and its warm the next few days. So I'm going to hope for the best. They probably take it back even if I do open it, it was their mistake and they are good to their customers. That being said any of you guys from Michigan if you are ever up north stop by Spanky's in Alanson, great prices. And this mess up on the year of the 250ES carb was the only mistake they made. Also they don't mind looking up obscure parts for old three wheelers. Got all my jets for re-jetting the YT175 from them and the Boyesen Power reeds.
