I bought this trike from a friend for 800 bucks. I got it not running and clean up the carb and put some fuel in it and run it for 3 days. Then on the third day I was running it pretty hard through some deep snow and cooked the piston. I knew it was on its last legs anyways so I tore the engine out and painted it up this is my pics so far. Im far from being finished but will post pics regularly as I get stuff done till its complete. If there is anyone willing to sell me a decent cylinder let me know. Mine is at max the sleeve is not looking up to my par, so one that has a couple oversizes left in it would be something id be willing to pay some coin for lol...

Here is some of my engine and parts, i have to clean my exhaust up and im thinking of painting the head pipe black, gold, or wrapping it in header tape, i also am in serious need of a repacking with the silencer. The silencer is empty. Now the reeds i believe are boysen pro series but i could be wrong. That old filter will doubtfully be used depending on what it looks like when i clean it, The carb is in pretty good working order but im not sure what the jetting is in it and from the air filter, reeds, and exhaust im thinking if its stock jetting that will have to be changed. The piston, does it really need a description lol? I think what happened was when i took the head off after the trike "blew up", i noticed that there was a heli coil in every single bolt hole in the cylinder and who ever did it should never do another heli coil repair. One of the holes threads were quite stripped and i assume by the look of the head gasket it developed a leak at the head gasket and the air leak was the cause of the piston melting or whatever you would call that, there was also a lot of piston material deposited on cylinder walls. But after all that damage to the piston and cylinder if the head isnt warped it should be useable. The piston, cylinder, connecting rod, crank bearings, and seals + gaskets are going to be replaced. I also plan to go over the transmission with a friend that knows them quite well. What do you guys think happened to the piston lol? ohh and any good deals on aircooled heads ?? :naughty: thanks for looking guys!! :beer

thats not good make shure you check the crank berring unless you whant to do another rebuild right after this one seeing if it spins is not enough the berrings can go sideways and ruin your day

i dont know if you read it or not but it states in the paragraph that i am replacing the crank bearings, connecting rod, piston, and cylinder, seals and gaskets...but thanks for the advice!!

What does the bore measure now? I have heard a couple guys actually boring the stock jug to 75.5mm - and had great results. I know in the Wiseco catelog it only lists sizez up to 72mm. You have to buy a piston from a company called wossner, and I believe this size brings it to 285cc, and I believe it is a piston from a liquid R. Do a search on here, and you should be able to find more info.

yeah your right it is bored out to a 72mm and apparently its on its 3rd piston of that bore, wow 75.5mm thats pretty cool 285ccs is quite a jump from the stock 248cc. I was always told by people that if you bore them too much you will burn pistons and rings up because they heat up easier with the thin sleeve walls, but then a friend that worked for a honda dealer as a mechanic told me that its actually the opposite that because of the thinner sleeve walls they exchange heat from the sleeve to the cylinder better and stay cooler...I dont know how much truth there is behind it, but thanks for the info i will be looking into that for sure :beer

this is a piston made buy wossner and its saying it comes in 72.25, 72.50, 73, or 73.5mm, but its for the liquid R's ive also never heard of using a liquid r piston...if it would work that would be sweet...

So me and Struckran tore the 250r engine apart tonight split the cases. Needs connecting rod, crank bearings, and im going to replace the counterbalance shaft bearings aswell, Hoping the cylinder Tecate250 has for me will no be at max bore!! I will post some pics off the engine and stuff tomorrow...
anyone with any nice aftermarket tanks for a 1st gen hit me up, I have only ever seen the clarke tanks for the 1st gen foolers but was wondering if there was something a little nicer looking than them huge goofy looking things...

So me and struckran were chilling. He had just finished his banshee engine and had a pretty spot all clean out for my little two fiddy are motor. So we drained the transmission, took of the mag, and clutch at his old mans shop. We brought the engine to his apartment and started to get into the cases. We got the whole engine split and nothing went out of place in the transmission. Whats really surprised me about these old engines is how easily they come apart. Maybe I got lucky, but nothing really had to be forced. It seems like honda built them to be easliy worked on. GUESS THATS WHY I RIDE RED!! Also got a new treat for the old girl at my local honda/stihl dealer...a shinny new 72mm piston, I have a CR number plate and motion pro twist on the way as well.:naughty:
Anybody have any ideas on tanks for my 1st gen other than stock, all I seem to find is oem and clarke were these the only 2 tank options available lol?

So havent really posted in a week, since my last post i had ordered the twist throttle and number plate, well i got the twist throttle kit from motion pro...now the problem that occured with me was that the kit said that it was a twist kit to fit a 81-86 atc250r (or so it stated in the kimpex book we ordered it from..)...so i get it, comes with the twist cable and a carb top...well the carb top was way too big for my stock carb because im guessing it was one that would only fit an 86 because almost every year changed carb size?? well i had to send that back and ordered a new throttle cable for the thumber and ill gear up a twist of a cr or something...the number plate is still on order.
Then the other day i broke bad and ordered a Hot Rods rod kit, crank bearings/seals, and a full gasket set. Also got some muffler packing and a cylmer repair manual lol...So now im just waiting on the engine parts of flee-bay...when i have the engine done i will post some more pics...

Got the number plate the other day and slapped it on...its for a 2000 CR125,250,500...also covered the seat in black but dont have any pics up yet because I just moved it from one garage to another and the garage its in now isnt lighted well and is cramped for space lol...

The other day I was sitting in the house when I seen the delivery truck stop and I knew something was going down lol, I got my cylinder that is at 71mm bore...really good shape and the rust hasn't pitted it and I'm boring it 2 steps up to a 72mm so I think I'm good...the only thing is it has a bolt snapped off in the top hole (1 of 6) that holds your reed cage on...some how I will get out it, anyone take these out if there busted of flush??? I also covered the seat with some fake leather I had lying around...I don't know if it will be on it long because I couldn't get it perfect...but it looks better than it being ripped i guess...

I put the top end on it, new D.I.D chain, 14t sprocket, and a new clutch cable 4 days ago and have been taking it really easy on it for a couple more hours. I was really surprised that when it was all said and done about 5 kicks and she was running sweet, also has really good power :naughty:. The maxis razrs had to go, they were to big for my liking and was hooking up to good (for what I like to do). Now all I am in serious need of is brakes. Im sure there will be more money spent on it for the next while just like its been since i bought it. So far the final tab is roughly over 2500 including buying price of 800 of course. There is still a few things I still need to paint and such. Want to mod a set of mesh heel kicks on it aswell. Brake parts wanted rear would be preferred, everything but the disks. Thanks for the comments so far fellas...

So the 250r has been down for about 2 weeks. After I got close to an hour on the bike it Dieseled on me. So I knew it was running way way to hot so i took the carb off. It ended up being a Mikuni VM30. The main jet was okay but the pilot jet was way too lean. I was going to try to properly jet the carb but I decided to just go with the stock 27mm. I got a what I was told is a Bills Pipe. I believe it is for a second gen because of the bend in the stinger. I ordered a stock carb and a new moose air filter a few days ago and it should be here within the next week or two. I have had alot of people tell me going back to a stock carb is going to rob its power big time. Its not that big of a concern of mine because its more less a shop queen that will see pitts on nice days lol. The other day I was messing around at the shop and figured I would paint my silencer, head pipe, shock, reservoir, wheel spacers, hubs and axel got a few more coats. Had some extra rattle cans (flat black & gold) and figured I would paint this old helmet I had up...

So I havent updated any of my fourms in like a month, I made some serious progress on the 250r. I traded it for a YZF1000-R, It was way to good of a deal to pass up so I jumped on it. I also sold both my big reds. I dont actually own a 3wheeler. Well I dont own a trike with 3 wheeles yet. But I do have a Project cooking up right now. It will be posted as soon as I get phase one complete. Here are some pictures. What it looked like at the end, and the new toy lol.
AGAIN this camera's dates are way off

LOL funny you say get rid of the death trap. This weekend a guy is bringing me down a MINT Black 99 dakota RT, 4inch drop, roll pan, 3 inch true daul exhaust, aftermarket hood, hard box cover, its a crazy truck he was asking 5000 and wants my bike. I have a 250r project in the works right now. I really would like to find a tecate or tri-z but eastern canada is a hard place to find anything atc unless you want a rusted out clamming mobile. The YZF is insane though, 145hp. I had it going 250kms pretty much maxed out. I will only kill myself with a liter between my legs, quater was bad enough lol

Yea, but that YZF would make a nice 3 wheeler.

Nothing wrong with what you are doing I wheel and deal for everthing. Trade the bike for the truck then drive the truck for abit then sell it for somthing better on gas and put the money left over into your R that you made from the truck

Yes man thats the way of the dealer. Im waiting on a 83R frame. Starting there and building up. I might go with a different powerplant. I was thinking of making it a big 4poker. Nothing under a 400
