ya i know what you are thinking not another ebay carb thread. i hope this one is different. so ill start with a short story
my wife's gio 200 cc quad came stock with a imitation keihin carb. from brand new the gio never ran right so i bought a mikuni to replace it. pilot screw or needle adjustments never could correct the problems. hard starting poor bottom end performance or a stall or bog if you stab the throttle etc etc. these are all complaints that i read about these cheep carbs having, on this site.
just a couple of weeks ago i discovered that the cheepo carb would bolt in place of the stock 24mm carb on my 200x. hell the slides even interchange. so i started looking at the two carbs and the only difference that i could tell was the jets them selves.
so what if you could interchange the jets?
would the correct the problems?
the main keihin jet drops right in place. but the longer keihin pilot did not fit. the only thing stopping the the keihin pilot was was a brass insert, so i took the carb to the drill press and carefully drilled it out, and installed a genuine keihin pilot.
i installed the carb back on the gio today, and if fired right up better than when it was original. once the engine warmed up i had to lean the air screw way out. the only pilot i had lying around was a 42 so its probably 1 or 2 sizes to big.
i still have lots of tuning and testing but so far it looks promising. if this all works out i want to try a cheepo 26 or 28 mm ebay carb on my 200x.
may be we can get keihin performance in a much cheaper package
the first pic is of the brass insert in the cheepo carb
second of the two sets of jets keihin on the right cheepo on the left
