hi my name is trevor and iam new to the site and looking forward to talking to all of you.i do have a 85 250es bigred and planning to restore it soon ,i almost have all the new parts to start ,but first i have to fix another 250es for a friend before i start my own bike.the problem is that the engine wont shift and i replaced both clutches and i still have the same problem.i turned the engine over by turning the clutch that is connected to the crank shaft to a certain position and it shifts all 5 gears,i just cant figure it out.

can anyone help me with this problem

thank you trevor

So you're saying it shifts when you take the side cover off, but not when you put it on?

Cool!! another albertan!,, They do need to be spinning to shift right,,, or at least Moved a bit... Could be a few things Sounds like its in the Shift Mechanism/drum something worn or loose or broken, I don't know all the tricks to the 250ES...But if you get stumped..more than welcome to bring it by my shop for a look!!
