Hey everyone,
I have an 84 200s that I have been converting into a two wheeler so lots of parts have been removed, re attached ect. About half way through the project, I would start it up, and within 5-10 seconds it would start running really really rich (white smoke and die) so I bought a new ebay carb and its doing the exact same thing so I don't think its a carb issue.
There is also another issue, related maybe? Where the pull rope will grab as your pulling up on it. If you pull it slowly it will make a click sound and you can re pull it as normal.
Thanks for any help.

Running rich wouldnt cause white smoke. White smoke might be steam.

my 84 200s would flood out when ideling, i would clean the carb out well and adjust the setting screw on the out side of the carb when its running, start with 2 1/4 turns out and see, then go 1/4 turns out at a time. if not this then it could be your throttle needle needing adjustment. 1 step at a time.
Check your oil..Its probably full of water from being Swamped at some point in time.

I'm gonna agree with water in the motor or in your gas put some heat in the tank, with all the weather changes the new gas will do crazy things as well as if you have oxygenated gas it will evaporate causing moisture just sitting there check your pump you get it from it should say the am pm's in Arizona have that type of gas

pull the plug see if there is oil on it. white smoke = oil in combustion chamber followed by leak down test to determine if rings are bad.

It has a fresh oil change, air filter off, with no blockages. Its a new brand new carb so I doubt its dirty. It's running rich, the plug has been cleaned a few times, its wet black and stinks like raw gas. I'm going to drain the tank and carb but I really doubt its water in the gas since it stinks like raw gas for 5 minutes after I try and run it.
I have never herd of a new carb being this far out brand new. Could it be a stuck float?

white smoke= steam
blue smoke= oil
Condensation in gas or possibly exhaust. You should see black smoke if its a rich as you say.

Ok lets go with blueish white equals oil in combustion chamber. Its never going to be a true blue. Dude do the following drain the oil and the gas. Put one quart of oil in crankcase. Fresh gas in the tank then it will pretty much eliminate the water/ white smoke theory.

I have seem some V8's burn so much oil that the smoke was blue out the exhaust, lol.
But anyway, have you found out anything else about the problem yet?

my 200s blows white smoke and its not hard at all on oil, its -20 celcious here so id say steam, when warm there no smoke at all. clean your jets in the carb and then move the throttle needle up ONE slot. check plugg, if its black and wet, move it another notch. if its the same, usually black wet plugg means your burnin oil..... you may need to adjust carb setting screw when you move the throttle needle clip up, i know i had to. good luck.

double check the float level, it may be over filling the carb, you said it was brand new did you get it off of ebay?

Yes the new carb was off Ebay, I was going to drain the carb and tank but the screw for the drain valve was already mangled, so its stuck, I think they put it in with about 50 ftlbs of torque
Everyone was right, the smoke is definitely oil. I'm 95% sure the decompression valve is stuck. I know its not working correctly, when you go to pull start it on the compression stroke it about takes your arm off. So I figure I will remove it to take it out of the equation.
I also checked the oil level, its right below the full line with rotella 15w-40
I have a manual for it but it does not go into detail about the decompression valve. Can you remove it without taking the head or valve cover off?
Thanks

If I remember right you need to pull the valve cover off to get the decomp assembly out. It should say in that manual you got.
