Keihin on Tri-z

I am putting a Keihin on my Tri-z. I put them on all my machines for interchangable jets, gaskets, cables, etc.... I have a 34pj and a 36pj to choose from, but I am leaning towards the 34 because it is from a 250 and has a #6 slide. The 36 is from a 125 and has a #4 slide and its missing the needle... I need recommendations for a safe starting point on the main jet. I currently have all sizes 142-170 and also a 185 & 190... I am guessing i'll end up in 150-160 range, but I have heard the Z's like fuel. Its my first Z and its been a long time since i've used a carb smaller than a 38 on any 250..

Edit: The bike appears to still have a stock jug.. I am using the stock airbox, fiberglass .018 TDR reeds, and a DG pipe..

I thunk I'd start with something close to stock 250r jetting possiblyy one or two steps fatter... I'd start with a 45 pilot needle in 3rd position and around a 155 main do a plug chop and go from there

What elevation are you at?

im at about 5000ft or so you may need to fatten it up a little depending on where you are id usually start right at or one or two steps up from where honda sets em from factory and go from there
the factory setting on a pj for an 86r is 3rd groove needle airscrew 2 1/4 turns out 42 pilot and a 145 main... if you look at the trx pj carbs.. all the factory settings are close to theses settings for a atc each year varies a bit but it should get you in the ball park... And thats a good place to start

Thanks menace. Most of my riding will be at 0-300 elevation, with an occaisonal snow run to 2000 ft. Do you happen to know what the factory 250r needle is? I am putting a carb together from two I bought as parts so i dont really know if the needle is correct.

well theres all kinds of needle variations i know i have one that has a r1368 and one that has r1369... once you start messing with needle you really get in to fine tuning carb id probably run what you have and get a good baseline form there
