Fresh clutches, and wiseco 10.25:1 piston and fixed my leaky valve cover gasket. Wish I didn't have to make 2 trips to my tool truck or I would have had her fired up today. At least I got the motor back in now all I have is the little stuff to button up. I can't wait to see how it pulls without the slipping clutch and the new higher comp piston! I gotta do my gun rack next and get with trailtech about a stator rewind so I can throw an hid spotlight on it.http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr287/jamminjimmi/big%20red/DSC00576.jpg

ok dumb question. why do most of you never proeprly "prep" your pistons? i'm not picking on jsut you, but a lot of guys on here do waht you jstu did, drop a new foreiged piston into the cyclinder and call it a day, you have to prep it and take a cartage roll on a dremmel and take off the sharp edges and shinly machinging on the dome. this remvoes the possibility of "pre-detonation" and ensures it proerply burns the fuel as it will not stick to or puddle around hot spots because there will not be any.

I guess because "most" of us never had any problem with detonation. What I don't understand is why people don't use "spell check", it should be highlighting your misspellings! We are talking about a Big Red, not a racecar....LOL

you kow i'm not singling ya out. I just see a lot of nice engiens going together and pistons not being preped. i never figure out why. I have had detonation and in the air cooled engines it's more prevelant that people think. Air cooled engines are much less consistant in temps that water cooled engines. that's a big reason Honda moved to liquid cooled over air. But yea for a lot of people who will never really push their engine at all then it will do fine. My BR we hopped up big time and we pound that big daddy all the time. it's a total HOSS!!!! it's amaizing what $800 in top ned can do for it. ;)
I do like how ya took the time to do the clutches and other stuff. looks good man and enjoy it. I just picked up a es coupel of weeks ago. (my hoss is a 200e). I'm going to do a restore on it. not show room, but really nice. so it will be a fine ride when done.

Is that black silicone caked on the rocker box top?- You might end up with a seized motor eventually. I'd redo that... Also just noticed-did you have the cylinder honed? I dont see a proper crosshatch on the bore. .... Just lookin out.

It does look nice, I'm not trying to pick you you either, but you should take that rocker box off and do it with about 10% of the silicone that you used. That is waaaayyyy too much silicone. And I'm not sure why you siliconed the inner part that doesn't need to be sealed.

^ X3 - WAY too much and it should be yamabond, hondabond or 3bond. Use a thin acid brush and apply a very thin coat on both surfaces, stay away from the cam as shown in the manual.
The cylinder doesn't look honed either?
Not pickin on ya, but you've got allot of money in there and I hate to see it ruined; It's good that you posted pictures

Could you post a picture of this? I haven't heard of it mentioned before and when I got a new piston for my Trail 90 it didn't say anything about prepping it (it wasn't a high comp piston). I just followed the steps in the service manual. But the 250ES will be getting a new piston and a new upper end this summer.
And you will want to re-do the rocker top, too much sealant can plug your oil holes and destroy the engine. You basically want the thinnest possible amount that still allows it to seal. But it looks great. Its going to tear it up with the new Mudlights too.

200xMichigan, I'll do you one better. This is the machine shop I use for my head work.

Arlington. I hid in the house all weekend from the superbowl people. they were scarry!!!!! LOL
yea hey, you may want to think of takign the top cover off and removing the silicone and redoig it with a very super thin layer. all your doing is putting enought ot ake out any unlevel surfaceness so it seals up with out gaps. so it is only needing to be paper thin in thichness at max. if you put too much it can get into the oil pump or plug the oil ports and cause problems.

Did you take it to them or just do it yourself with the dremel? It would be cool to practice on an old one. So I guess my Trail 90 didn't need it since it was just a stock piston. Great site.

I didnt assemble it like that, but building stuff and taking pics is a pain in the sak so thats why it looks like it does. Its definitely not my first rodeo!

I know top engine builders who bead blast the pistons and then blend the valve reliefs into the piston or smooth and curve em out.Maybe the flow can roll in faster then hitting a sharp edged bump.
