So I ended up picking up the trike I posted about the other day. It turns out its a 1984 Tecate and its kind of in rough shape. Got it for $250. I don't know if these came stock... (dont think so) but there are like poles jetting out from the frame to like support the back fender or something....its kind of funky and I don't have em on my 85' T3. The whole damn thing needs a good power washing haha... Let me know what you guys think about the trike

So here's the good:
-It runs! ...for about 5 seconds and then dies... (not bad considering it sat for like 5 years without being ran)
-It has good tires, in the back at least
-The engine is supposedly bored out..least thats what the guy said. It has initials engraved by the guy who bored it...
-It doesn't seem to leak fluids, except for gas when the carb floods, easy enough fix.
-Air filter seems alright.

And the bad:
-The back grab bar area on the frame is broken with a crappy quick fix weld (pic included)
-The back brake master cylinder is "brand new, just needs to be filled with fluid and bled" ...we'll see about that..
-Back fender is basically toast.
-Front fender is missing the front section.
-Light doesn't work
-Carburetor pukes out gas when the petcock is on the "on" position (but it doesn't when it's on reserve...)
-Back brake pads need replaced
-Chain is rusted to hell.
-Needs seat reupholstered
-Expansion chamber mount busted

All in all though its like the perfect fixer upper bike. Nothin major is wrong with it as far as I'm concerned and it actually has a Kawasaki engine! Haha, no more Kawazuki! :p

Those fender supports were welded by someone. It didn't come like that. The 84 and the 85 use the same fender support.

dbp is for the porting, congrats!! I actually have a 500 with the same porter!! i have never found who dbp is. but i have no complaints. .. sounds like the carb needs a thorough cleaning and she will be good to go!

Yea... the supports are kinda doofy... Might just get rid of them all together when I re-weld the frame in the back. Kind of need new fenders to put on it though lol... Would be nice to get some brand new ones :]

That looks a good trike to start a rebuild from, but that grab bar is SHOCKING!!!! LOL
I've just bought an 84' tecate in red, but it's gonna take about 5 weeks to be shipped to me in the U.K.!!

There's a group buy for maier tecate fenders, you should still be able to get in on it. You can get black, red, or green.

Your muffler looks like a bassani with a mount piece(never seen one like that), also your headpipe is probably something good too.

You done well on your purchase !
The correct exhaust hanger is still available thru Kawasaki for under 20 dollars. Have them look for the superseded number.

dick cepek spider traks... havent seen them in a while. the headpipe isnt a bassani, not sure what kind it is, definately not stock, however the silencer might be, but not sure, need a better pic of it. it does have the stock original fender support, look in pic 1 and 11, but looks to have some extra support welded on where the tunnel in the right side fender is, maybe extra support for when kicking it over?

That head pipe doesnt look stock! Wonder what it is? Nice score. Im happy to see these almost forgotten 3 wheelers being brought back to life.

Wow! You learn something new everyday. I didnt know tecates came with a fender support. Anyone got a close up of one? Nice score indeed. And crazy low price.

So I had a day off for a change and decided to get this thing actually running and take her for a spin down the street. I popped off the carb and OH MAN, it looked like someone was runnin on a tank of dirt or somethin haahah! Cleaned it out and she started up and ran like a 'beaut! Now, on the rubber boot that goes from the engine to the carb, its like starting to crack and such.... Are there replacements out there or is it not really a big deal? I attached a photo of it. Just curious. Oh and btw, whoever DBP is, they ported this thing like a freakin' champ. Once you get up there in third gear this thing just takes off. Wheelies in every gear without even meaning too! 10x faster than my LT250R hahaha. Love this thing <3333

The rear fenders look pretty decent, color wise. Gotta love the Tecate's. I have that same pipe, just have no idea what it is. I have been told trinity (not sure though). I know that there are at least 4 pipes that are sectioned like yours. 1 being a bassani, one being a coffman, and no idea on the other ones.

The rear fender look alright in the pic but in person they are totallllly shot and brittle. Yea I have no idea what the head pipe is either but all I know is that I need a different back one because the previous owner took out the core and its louder than all hell haha.

I repacked my silencer this summer and it makes a world of difference noise wise. One time I had the disks fall out of a super trapp pipe on my 350x, just about made my ears bleed. Kinda a bummer he lost the core. I wonder if a muffler shop could make you a core, I'm no expert but they look pretty simple.

Maybe I'll try to mod a dirt bike one to fit. My bro has like 3 mufflers for his KX250 that he isn't using lol

That air boot will cause a major problem if it fails, it will cause the engine to run too lean and burn up. I would get a new one on the way ASAP.

If you get an old silencer thats a similar size and use the pipe from the inside re-pack it and make an end piece you'll be sorted!!

X2- Get a new intake on there ASAP before that one fails and you burn up that sweet running trike... John is AWESOME to deal with. Just send him a PM and you'll probably have an intake yesterday..(he's that good, lol)

Edit- Hit up Mrs. Mosh for a seat cover too.
