I have been looking on E-Bay for a better tank for the 250ES but everything I find is dented or rusty or both. My tank is very clean inside and beside one large dent its in really good shape. Do most people just bondo over the dent or is there anyway to pull them out?

well you could just get somew bondo and fill in the dents then paint it or you caan completely seal the tank and pump air in to it to pop out the dents.

The is a tool they use on cars that's a dent pulled that uses a gun that welds lil rods on then u use a slide hammer to pull the dents then just grind and clean and paint. I used it in my 110 tank and a 250r header pipe. Does the trick every time. Just like swamp thing said

A brand new 250ES tank? Pretty sure they are discontinued. I could get a plastic one but I don't want to and some people have said they are only ok and don;t line up quite right. Or for $300 I could get one on E-Bay that's rustier than mine but has smaller dents. And at that price a NOS tank would cost more than I paid for my 250ES and wouldn't make sense because I use it for work and play. I just want my machine to look good, that's not too weird. Eventually I want it to look close to new. Not only does paint keep it looking good but its keeps the rust off so it will last a good long time.
Plus for $300 bucks I could pull dents out of lots of things, my car, other gas tanks. Never once regretted buying a quality tool.

Harbor Freight sells a stud gun for about 100 bucks, its good enough to do the job. Using a big thick glob of body filler is never a good idea. The metal should be somewhat pulled out before body filler is used so you don't have to use much.

I took the tank off of my 70 to a local body shop that has the paintless dent repair tools. Left it there for a day and he actually popped the dents out in his spare time for free, only a small amount of filler was needed.

That's a deal there. Might go that route, since I don't have painting equipment. For $100 to have it like new again would be awesome.

I just called a guy the other day that bought a new tank in the box from a honda dealer near him that he is going to try to sell, but pretty sure it will be a pretty penny. I also have had someone tell me to fill it with water and pump air in it. Can someone shed a little light on this technique, sounds to easy to work that good.

Works great for the larger dents, as long as there's no crease, typically the ones you make from your knees hitting the sides. No need to fill it with water, compressed air is all you need. Just take off your petcock, make sure ALL the gas is out of the tank, seal off your gas cap (I just wrap a plastic bag around mine and turn the switch to off) and shoot about 130 PSI into the tank...do it with a blower attachment, it will work fine. You may even be able to get out some of the creased dents with a well placed tap of the hammer under pressure. Just try not too leave it under pressure too long, especially if you already have a few pinholes in the tank...this will make them bigger!!

dont do that unless the tank has no rust or theres a chance you will blow it honda never intened 130psi to go i there tanks and i wount even do it on any tank

If I can find a place around here for $100 to paint it and pull the dents I'm gonna go that route. I was thinking the same thing about that much pressure. I figure I'll take it somewhere and have them paint it and I'll seal the inside and it will be good for another 26 years.

I have 3 very dent fee tanks that say otherwise:naughty: ...like is aid...it will get the large dents out quick, but you'll still end up having to do something with the smaller dents... Thats why you need to use the blower fitting, once the dent pops out, there's no need for any more pressure. I can honestly say though that I've put 125 PSI with no problem.

:twisted:dents give the trike personality , air pressure is a easy method ,and doesn't always require fresh paint , the stud gun method is good but will need paint , i would check with local bodyshops they may hook you up fairly cheap. my 250es had a yamaha tank bungied on for a year .macthed the ducktape seat and 1 third plastics ziptied together what a trail buster, no worrys man:crazy: . i do miss that tank, trike but let a bro have it ,to fix his clean es with bad moter:D:beer
