I bought a 85 350x clutch cable off dennis kirk and it is too short, did they change them in 86 for some reason? They didn't list a cable for the 86 that's why I bought the 85 cable.

The 86 had a totally different route for the cable, and I do believe that it is also much longer.

'85 cable routing went down the main front frame, along the right side of the cyclinder to the pertch on the engine.
'86 went through the oil cooler guard, had a clamp on the fly wheel cover, then around back of the cyclinder where there was another clamp over to the pertch.
I'm also assuming that the pertches on the motor changed because the cables pull them different ways.
I ordered a '86 cable from servicehonda and I think it was less than $20, its factory honda so it fit perfectly.
What other parts are you planning on ordering? Maybe we can help you out ahead of time to let you know if there are differences between '85s and '86's.

I just ordered an oem 86 cable off service honda along with some rear end parts. One thing that would be great is if someone could post a close up pic of the axle/ carrier of an 86 X. When I got my x and started going through it I decided to replace the front wheel bearings along with the rear axle bearings. When getting ready to get into the rear end I noticed there was no way to the the rear tight by using the nuts. I've noticed in pics both nuts on the axle should be all the way to the right up agaist the pin on the axle. When I do this I can slide the axle back and forth about an inch. I don't think i'm missing any parts becase when looking on the parts fish diagram everything is there. When the nuts are all the way to the right are they suposed to be pushing the treaded piece to the left? Is that what keeps everything tight? I'm sure i've over looked something here but it's driving me nuts! LOL

When the nuts are tight against the sleeve on the right your axle should be good,, it pushes the threadsinto the disc hub which pushes on the bearing and holds it tight. If it moves something is in wrong or really worn. I'll see if I have a pic of my rear end and post it
