I’m looking at a 85 250r this weekend and the guy says that there is a slight bend in the left side of the axle. He said that on grass/dirt you cant notice it but if you ride on pavement you will notice it.

He says it’s a durablue 2+2 axle. Is there any way to fix this axle? Is it even worth fixing? I guessing the axle will be weaker if it can be bent back into place.

It might be the wheel/rim that is creating the wobble but he has two different sets of tires so i'm sure he knows its the axle and not the rims.

The one thing you need to do is bring a milkcrate/stool, or bikestand to set the rear on any time your looking at purchasing an ATV or ATC. Roll the rearend swing it side to side and look for play in the rear. Axles can be bent back...the heat treatment gives the steel a kind of memory of alignment. Would I trust it? as a spare on the trail? sure. I'm betting it's the hub or rim...much more easy to bend in a normal roll over.

You can have the axle bent back and it will be no weaker. Dirtcrasher can do it for you if you are looking for somebody to do it.

If it isn't bent too bad it can be bent back to shape with a little heat.

just another reason why I need a house with a big shop and my own lathes, so I can start making new aftermarket axles out of some nice stressproof steel. I see alot of guys on here with bent axels, and making a new one is only about a 4 hr job

if you make your own make it from a dodge torchion bar if you bend that it bends back since its spring steel

Heat will weaken it allot worse than a 20 ton press. Send it my way, I'll get it as close as possible........

My big red axle is bent on one end. With the shaft drive is it a 2 piece axel? is it easy to take off and straighten?

^ You may have a bent swingarm, I use to pull off the left short tube and the axle was way off center. Since then I bent 3 more SX swingers.......

The axles were always straight. Yours could be bent right on the end though......
