Thought I'd post this as I see people parting out perfect running artifacts and it breaks my heart, but if not for them I couldn't do what I did to this.
I was invited to Glamis by a friend a few years back and I loved it so much that it inspired me to build this R. This would be my very first build from top to bottom. I bought the trike for $500 and it was a hot mess! Six months and a few dollars later I finished it and now it's a sexy mess! I documented the build on another site though I should have posted it here. After I finished some of my friends dubbed it the Phoenix because it rose from the ashes, so chalk one up on the resurrected board!

I wasn't going to do anything but use some of the parts off of it and then this happens. I only started taking picks when I was tearing it down.

Yes indeed I will be there with the Phoenix and my camera to take pics of all the BAD ARSE trikes that will be there. I want to make a calendar for personal use.
I'm in/near Los Angeles and yourself?

its great to see someone go out of their way to save a trike. not much things piss me off more than to see someone part out a trike. im the same way, theres already enough parts floating around. i see a bunch of people parting out runners on ebay just pisses me off cause they wont be around forever.

:) When I finished I had the feeling you get when you go to the local exterminators eeerrr the animal shelter and save an animals life who was on death row.

Part out the POS's save the nice runners. There's a lot of emotion surrounding this topic on both sides but the only excuse to part a runner IMO is for emergency money. There are alot of guys in my area and all they do is snatch up these nice rides only to dismantle and profit from it on feebay. I don't hate, to each their own I guess.

ya double edged sword the part outs, Guys need part to keep what they got alive so the market is there , just sucks to see a real nice one taken apart when there are plenty of part out type bikes out there .

lol, don't be shy to post the link to "the other site" especially if its .org I think most of us are on those forums also, I know I am although I rarely go there.

as for parting out runners, I have mixed feelings about it. With a trike or any ATV for that matter rarely will you get out of it what you paid for it whole. Especially a trike because there is such a premium for parts it drives down the value of the whole thing cause its more expensive when stuff breaks. here in OR a pristine stock 350x or 250r can expect to fetch 2500 TOPS, and that is to someone that knows what they are looking at, maybe a little more with mods. Even yours which is VERY nice and looks like you have a few mods on it I'd say 3k tops. I'm sure you have more than that into it even for the $500 you paid for it originally which was a pretty good deal for what it was IMO. Secondly there are still TONS out there especially the honda's and there are enough people resurrecting them to keep them around for some time to come. Lastly as you mentioned if it weren't for people parting out good bikes it would be tough to find some of the more problematic parts, Cams, crankshafts, transmission gears, carriers, frames, etc. My theory is if just those parts each save a trike that is 6 of them still in action rather than sitting and rusting away or being parted out themselves.

That R looks so nice and modernized, good enough to be on a showroom floor.

fmnrd, the funny coincidence is that the crappy bikes that should be parted out are usually the ones that are getting many of the good parts off of good bikes.

Very nice build. Seems you had direction when building it of exactly what you wanted. It turned out perfect.

Just didn't want to offend is all here is a link to the whole build from start to finish. Far as a plan went, it changed more than once over the course of the build for various reasons.
