Well, about 3 months ago I picked up an 86 250SX for $500, runs like a top. I just found a deal on an 86 Bid Red 250, guy says it runs great, battery is good, everything is there, he's asking $550 for it. One small problem first off is he either doesn't have a registration for it, or the one he has is really old and possibly not in his name. I'll clarify tomorrow when I go look at it. He said he'd write a bill of sale tho. What else should I look for on this machine?

Check to make sure all the bearings are tight, check your chain, ride it, listen to it run, listen for any odd engine noises/knocking, check brakes, just make sure everything works as it should and not leaking anything.

check your chain

it's a big red, it's shaft driven.

I'll def check out the very basics, I was just wondering if these trikes had any known specific problems I should be looking out for, like with the hi/lo range, suspension, etc.

Hahahahaha, my 84 200es, with it's dedicated 5 hi, 5 lo gearing, will outpull my 250 every day of the week. I prefer the 250 for everything else though.

I HATE having to wiggle and rock the 200 back and forth the go into reverse though.

well the guy must have something wrong then. I did think all the big red 250's had hi lo range, tho. hmmmm. I'll clarify everything tonight when I go look at it.

actually checked the ad again, it doesn't say what year it is. I must have had it mixed up with another ad I saw. It does say hi/lo range, reverse, electric and pull start, front and rear racks, tho. so would it probably be a 200 then? I thought the 250's had kick start?

oh, screw that then. the guy just txt me actually and told me "I got a trade offer. I won't sell it to you because you've been a pain in the ass, I've never been asked about a regi on a three wheeler" lol oh well. I guess some people don't like it when others want to cover their asses.
