My 2nd tecate build needs a complete shifter assembly-does anybody have an idea on options for replacements?

What year and let me be more specific, not the gear shift lever itself, I need the complete internal shaft inside the motor. T-4 works?

The 84 and 85 shift shafts are different.

13161-1109 This part number shows active limited quantity so it may still be available.

KX250-C2 (KX250) (1984)
KX250-D1 (KX250) (1985)
KX250-D2 (KX250) (1986)
KXT250-A2 (Tecate) (1985)
KXT250-B1 (Tecate) (1986)
KXT250-B2 (Tecate) (1987)

13161-1102 is the part number for the 84 shift shaft and is only used on the 84 Tecate.

maybe one out of KX250 83/84?

I may have one of those lying around.

Try ebay?

The problem with that is that the 83 KX250 shift shaft is different than the 84 KX250 shift shaft, and the 83 KX250 shift shaft won't work in a Tecate trans.

KX250-C2 (KX250) (1984)
KX250-D1 (KX250) (1985)
KX250-D2 (KX250) (1986)
KXT250-A2 (Tecate) (1985)
KXT250-B1 (Tecate) (1986)
KXT250-B2 (Tecate) (1987)

These use the same part number shift shaft, The 83 KX250 won't work with an 85-87 trans, nor will an 84 KXT250 shift shaft.

this probably doesn't help, but i used a kx shifter shaft in my 86 t3. i needed a shaft, and was digging threw kawie parts at the salvage yard near me. it was the same length, except the end where the spring goes was longer. i just ground that down and it works perfect. just ground it down enough so the clutch cover would fit and the shaft wouldn't be sloppy in and out. i don't know what year or model it came off. but pretty sure it was a newer kx250 shaft.

well oops I meant 84/85 (86) kx250 or 86 tecate.

I 'm pretty sure I have one with surface rust. And may be more? I'd have to look but I am failing at getting this stuff dug out for people.

As sblt500r said, the 83 KX250 shift shaft might be easily made to work in the Tecate trans, so who knows.

I wish I knew what I had here, no numbers on it but the main issue is the spring is on top, so when it is installed the spring hits the gear which is directly on top of it.I noticed this when I was checking all my internals. I'll try to order the shaft from CHEAPCYCLEPARTS.COM and also check on Ebay for 1. T-4 shifters were mentioned, any ideas on that?

After looking at the parts fiches it appears I have a 86 shaft here.If you look you'll see the spring on top. I cannot tell you if it worked in the motor as it was not running when I purchased it.
