i was wondering can you use paint stripper on plastic? because on the tecate i got the gas tank was painted, and the paint is rough. i would rather it be faded plastic then the crap that is on it. or will the paint stripper eat the plastic tank up?

I heard that oven cleaner works for taking paint off of plastic, otherwise you could always sand it off, use a finer wet sanding paper and go to it.

i figured i would end up doing that. i was wondering because i have a dang near full can of paint stripper, i figure i would try the work smarter not harder tactic but shot down lol.

Try a small amount on a small spot first. I think it would be ok personally.

I wouldn't use stripper on plastic. I agree with brain on sanding it.

I use stripper on fenders many times, I buy it in a spray can at the hardware store! Don't let it sit on there a long time do as many times as it takes 5 minutes each time, then when done polish it out with plastic polish.

I've used the spray can stuff too.. Duplicolor if I recall correctly.. I just let it sit til the paint softened and then pressure washed it off.. may take a couple attempts..

Thanks for the pointer. I got a 85 R that the past owner painted the number plates black and was sloppy.
