Not sure how it works where you're from but where I'm from, you pay for the bike when you pick it up, shake hands and you are the new owner as long as the numbers aren't filed off, you're golden...

If you did want a title, the best way is to proabably just tell the Canadian DMV that you've had the bike since new, are looking to sell it(if they need a reason why), and get a title for it. Most states down here really don't care about an old 25 year old "outlawed" bike. All I did was walk up there, and tell them the state I bought it from didn't issue titles for these when new, and they gave me a new title, no questions asked. May or may not be that easy.

everything is on the bike nothing filed off LOL. i did get a receipt when i bought if because that owner says its not stolen because the previous owner told him it wasnt and so forth. i already put a few bills into her to get it going i dont want it to end up being hot or getting caught riding the back roads... papers would be nice

Before you try to get an ownership I would get the VIN # and phone the MTO. Tell them you're looking at buying this 3 wheeler and the seller doesn't have the ownership and you want to see if its stolen. If it is not stolen then try to get papers. The only way I know of to get an ownership here is to go to the MTO, buy the sellers/buyers package, track down the last owner, get them to buy a new ownership, and sign it off to you so you can then transfer it into your name.

I'm in Ontario as well, and this is what works here (Done it three times). You can try and track down the last registered owner, sometimes it works sometimes not. The easiest way is to write up an affidavit, It basically says who you are, who you bought it from, a description of the machine with VIN and the purchase price. Take that to a lawyer or notary public and have them sign it and take that affidavit and the bill of sale to the MTO and you get a new ownership in your name.
It basically tells them that you bought it legally from previous owner with a broken paper trail.
I find it completely mind boggling that anyone would buy a machine and not want a title or ownership for it in their name, That's one of the first things I do is get it into my name. All you need is some A-hole to sell you something and then it gets reported as stolen after the reciept date. Your out the $$ and the machine and more $$ fighting to prove it's yours and you didn't steal it when its such a small price to pay to be sure.

here in Manitoba you just go to the autopac office tell them you want to register it give them the numbers and they will run the numbers and if it doesn't come up stolen you're the new registered owner.

Like the guy from Nebraska said its a hand-shake deal some places. I have never seen a single trike with papers here in northern Michigan. At the same rate everything is small town here. You have a pretty good idea who everyone is, and if something comes up stolen word gets around. So you feel safe buying a trike. Do people in Michigan go to the Sec of State to get the title?
around here its mostly a handhake deal. I have bills of sale for a few ive bought though.

yeah i understand the hand shake deal, but all i have is a receipt, if i get caught all i have is that nothing else..... also if i want to transport it to a local ATV ralley and i get pulled over and thay check the trike out and see no papers or insurance im screwed... id just like to be on the safe side and not loose the bike. i'll try the local MDV or MTO and see what thay say.
how much did it cost you RoscoW to have the lawer sign the affidavit? if you dont mind me asking..

Tread lightly Honda200s. Watch who you approach for information. Your local licence bureau should be able to tell you if the trike has ever been registered before. If it hasn't follow Rocow's advice. Be careful with the RCMP. They just towed away a sled my friend found in the bush while hunting. It's been there for years. He asked the RC's to run the VIN for him. They just took it without any explanation and sent it for salvage, WTF? He doesn't want to cause any sh*t with the "man"; too small of a town.
