honda 185

just joined the 3 wheeling world with a honda 185s. I took apart the carburetor and cleaned it thoroughly and got the bike to run but it's still a little rough. when i got it most of the lines were cut and led to no where and i havent been able to find any useful diagrams to show me where they go. i was wondering if anyone could help me out? here is a diagram I found for the carb (unfortunately nothing is labeled) i need to know where #14 and #17 go:

They are just overflow tubes

they're vent tubes. they don't go anywhere. Only one tube that actually hooks up to anything is the one that goes to the gastank.

actually i ran into the same problem. 17 actually is the gas line and if you look at the diagram there is a "vent hole" above the choke that conects to the gas tank. thats how the carb bought brand new was. i thought something was wrong, i ended up trying every hole and i finally found that one on top of the carb and then it ran like normal. if that helps at all

I'm having the exact same problem on my 1983 185s, except i cant get mine to where it will idle, and i have mine hooked up to 17 also, but when i turn my gas on 14 drips gas out

do what i said, and monkey around with the idle screw until it fits your standards. it worked for me.

i did this evening, but still nothing, it will not idle, you have to be pushing the throttle for it to run

is the choke lever up? the choke lever has to be up for it to work.

i have a 200s that wouldnt idle either unless id push on the gas,, so then i monkeyed around with it and i raised the throttle needle, then she reved like mad. if this works for you turn down your idle screw right away LOL

part 14 and 17 are run off tubes they litteraly just sit there open, if it floods itll run out the bottom tubeand onto the ground, i would recommend cleaning the carb again , i know it sounds crazy but i had to clean mine a few time before it would run right ,built my 185s outta a hundred pieces ,got it from a guy on craiglist for 120 so happy with it. also if its revving up or down in a wierd way it may have a air leak somewhere around the carb. just put some soapy water round it and see if it bubbles when compresed with the throttle if its leakin that would be your problem.

also make sure part 23 and 15 are cleaned out very good my part 15 (jet) was so clogged i couldnt even tell there was sposed to be a hole, i used carb cleaner but i still ended up diggin the crud out with a needle. when it was clogged gas would fill up in the carb and just drain out the part 14 ( overflow).

and there is also a clip on the top of part 3 , my problem was it was put in wrong by the previous owner so when id start the engine it would be gunnin at max ,it wouldnt let the throttle close all the way so i took it out put it back in and it was perfect.

Not sure about the soapy water thing. Spray carb cleaner around the intake and carb to check for air leaks. If it sucks the carb cleaner in, the rpms will change.
