Folks,

Seller of the trike below says it is a 1983 200S. I'd appreciate it if the experts on here could look at the photos and let me know if you agree... I'm new to these trikes and will appreciate the feedback!

Thanks Tim! You've got a sharp eye. That's not good news, though, as he thinks its a 200S.

Aha! I see, the 185S has the axle behind the sliders, whereas the 200S was in front. Still worth $300? (allegedly runs) Keep in mind I need to drive 3 hours round trip to pick it up.

My 200s front end looks the same as this one except for the black thing where the handlebars clamp. The rear fenders dont look the same though.

d4xcrq, do you have the vin number?

Ailll1,

Thanks for lookin'! Yeah, I don't know what that black thing is on the handlebars is either. And the seller doesn't know much about the bike - so I have no VIN to work with.

18s is my guess. I just sold mine but it looks right.

There's not a huge difference between a 185s and 200s anyway

I thought so, too. I just worry about having a mutt - and not being able to get parts, or a hard time figuring what I need.

Thanks for your replies, gentlemen.

Even if it is a mutt, many 185/200 parts interchange and there's a lot of those still out there, so you should be ok

Some of the best trikes out there are "mutts"! ;) Parts shouldn't be a problem at all. I'd get whatever info you can from him on the phone. Last time it ran? Did it smoke? Does it have a chain? etc. Overall, $300 doesn't sound bad, but 6 hours total drive time to get it might be a little much. I'd watch for one closer, unless you don't mind soaking up a Sunday to go get it.

Folks,

I thinks it's a ATC185S, based on the VIN. Here's the VIN, JH8TB0101DC317380. There could be a typo, as it was dark and 22F outside. I bought the bike - it's in the back of my pickup. Starts on the first pull. Rough around the edges, but certainly worth saving. I'll have my daughter on it tomorrow - we are getting snow and she'll be off school.

Thank all of you that helped out... I'll post lots of photos tomorrow.

Promised Pictures!
My daughter is 15 - and figured out the body language required to make this trike dance in about 15 minutes. It's cool to see her drift!

This Honda has some 'deferred' maintenance issues, and a few things flat out missing - so I may be bugging you guys for parts here shortly. The oil got changed right away. I put in Shell Rotella 15W40 as some have recommended.

By the way, still don't know what the big honkin' bracket on the handlebars is for.

Thanks again for the help!

most tempting and worst thing anyone can do is put their feet down
like we all do when riding a 2 wheeled bike.

It's like a reflex to be fought.

My daughter figured hers out in no time too.

Sure is fun to have something else to do outside
when the weather's good for nothing else.

Nice save. the rear rims look to be aluminum. The rear plastic would tell me it looks to be a 185s. Just my 2 cents. Have fun

looks like it has 200x wheels and tires on the rear so that means it prolly has 200x hubs too if im right. all in all some of the best trikes are peiced together from other models. I like it, looks like a fun trike to run some trails on.

You say you put 15w40 Rotella in it. I would think that oil wouldn't have the right properties for the clutch if so your clutch is going to die. I could be wrong though.

Nice trike for 300.00! Runs and drives! I would take that bracket off though before letting your daughter ride again, looks dangerous with the edges. Don't think its anything you will need and one less worry if she comes to a fast stop. Have fun!

Blake,

I looked through lots of history on this site and Shell Rotella is one oil cited as safe for the clutch (at decreased drain intervals). I'll be the first to sqawk if anyting goes wrong!

And I thank all the other posters that gave this newbie advice. My daughter refers to the 185 as 'Red Rider' and wants to ride it everywhere.

You'll be fine with the Rotella, I run it in all my four strokes.

Looks like a fun trike. Piecing them together is half the fun. I am collecting 200X parts, 185S engine, whatever else comes my way, various brake levers and such and am going to make a really nice AutoX. It will wind up with the 200X upper end and carb and the 185 lower end. Might see about keeping the clutch, there is a bike at the junkyard that can donate parts as well. That's the awesome thing about this series engine it there are tons of parts that can be swapped from lots of machine.

I go to put my leg in the way almost everytime Im about to eat it. But I get a thaught in my head everytime "broken shen bone or just a fall" but the other day I hit the brakes and slid through a ditch and put my leg down, and Right before i snapped my leg in 2 pieces I came to a stop. (im accident prone!)

it should have the displacemt stamped on the rear bottom of the clyinder under the carb, it will say like 184cc or 198cc aka 185 or 200 looks to be a 200s front fender and forks 250sx rear tires and wheels and older 185s rear fenders

I'll check the cylinder for the marking you mention! No telling what it is, Swifty!
And Bugler, I'd buy my daughter the Hello Kitty basket if I could find one!

I did not know that, thanks for sharing that with me. I run shell Rotella in my vehicles but use the 10w40 Valvoline ATV 4 stroke oil in the ATC. I replaced everything clutch related on my 185s last spring so I did not want to chance anything on different oils.

Swifty,

The cylinder is stamped "180", so at least the engine is a match to the frame. My daughter and I are hoping for enough snow to cancel school tomorrow so she can get some more riding in. 3-6" forecast.

And Headsup, nope, no key!
