Front master cylinder upgrade

Is there something out there that a improvement over the stock one on a 86 250R?

Yea, Pretty much any quad or dirt bike one will work, Take your pick.

I run a new 400ex on my TRX. The ATC shouldn't be any different.

I run a Z400 one on my X, I had an ASV already on it so it seemed logical.

even between brands they seem to fit...got and XR250R front master on one of my hondas, a KX80 on another honda and a cr85 on yet another...I`ve put many brands on many other brand machines for both dirt and street with little or no effort...just be sure if the R caliper is two pot to buy a master that went on a machine with two-pot caliper as it may make a difference in hydraulic power..my 200x`s had single pot so the little 80cc masters would do as they also have a single puck

most dirbike stuff is Nissin or magura and i think one other brand....used by several companies
