Silver caps pop off. Start soaking the area with penetrant now.
There's a 4 pronged lock nut that some people make a socket for.
Some pop it loose with a punch. It really only locks the next item...
Which is a short stepped fine thread shaft that hold the bearing.
Looks like a 17mm allen head but we double nutted a bolt with a 17mm head
and used that for the wrench to remove it and reinstall.
If you can get those to screw out, the swing arm will fall off.
The other stuff that needs to come off are real obvious, shock bolt etcetc
There are tapered bearing in there and can usually be found locally for cheaper than the dealer.
I've heard about people swapping all sorts of forks but I've never had to yet.
Now dirtcrasher is the frame expert.
Darn shame you can't just do some cro magnon skid plate thing to hold the frame together.
Tons of folks will surely chime in soon.
Welcome to the obsession

Front end should swap. Only difference, I think, between the years was seat color, decals, and upgraded swingarm in '86-'87. Look out for the ball bearings falling all over when you take the front end off.

yea, i got new steering stem bearings to go in anyways, if i cant find a frame around im going to get the local welding shop to make a plate to go from front motor mounts , back to where swing arm bearings go in and weld it solid, shouldnt have any worries after that is said and done with.
