What part is needed to tighten up the slop in the Kick Start lever? I looked through my manual but doesn't seem to address this. The Kick Start lever has a lot of play and is really loose. The kick starter itself that the lever attaches to feels tight. My Big Red I sold so have nothing to compare it to. The Big Red was tight and sprung back into position against the trike. Is there supposed to be a spring in this where the bolt is? I would appreciate if someone could post a diagram or photo and explain what I need to do to fix it. Thanks

The spring in there has collapsed...you need to "lengthen" it a little. Take your assembly apart, you should find a click ball and spring in there between the 2 pieces. Take the spring (unless you just want get a new one) and push a flat srewdriver in between all the coils - a little tap with a small hammer might help too. The spring should lengthen out enough to apply pressure to the joint when assembled. make sure to put a little grease between the contact points...that should do it.

Thanks, appreciate the reply. I didn't see a spring anywhere on it, I'll take it off tomorrow and see what I can find. If the spring is gone would you know the replacement part number and the best place to find one? Also, any chance the 85 250sx is the same Kick Starter?

They're all pretty much the same set-up...take a look at bikebandit for the schematic and part - http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/1986-honda-atc350x/o/m1917#sch18804
#4 is what you're looking for...you won't be able to see it until you take the lever apart. - Hope this helps

Thanks Flossy, I am waiting on a few other parts then I'll get out there and heat the shop to get my hands dirty. Doesn't look like they offer #3 the pin but I am sure I need the spring for both as neither one kicks back into position like my 250SX. I'll try and match the pin at my Farm Supply store.

There should be a shop manual in the 'world class help section'.
do you think you'll need a side cover gasket?
Be careful with the splines on the shaft too.
Not sure about kicker shafts but I know theres info on cutting the separation
of the pinch bolt of a shifter with a hacksaw so it can pinch tighter.
but I guess you did say your was ok .

Also watch out when you take it apart, there is a little washer that likes to fall out into your casing. You do not want that to happen !
