does any one have a cdi box for 85 r or does any one know how to test it to see if it is good?

you need a very high quaity multimeter to test them and its still a huge pain in the @$$ its easyer to test every thing else
if nothing else is broke get a cdi i think rm stator on ebay might have one they got good prices

What makes you think its the CDI?

+1.... on the right tester or it will give you bad readings.

the manual i have says that a tester is not recommended, and the sad part of the 85 is that nobody makes a replacement cdi for it. they make em for the 86 though if you wanna change your wire harness over, went through that hassle and bought a used one off of ebay

Im pretty sure someone does make an aftermarket one for the 85. Pretty sure I seen them on ebay not long ago.

Most CDIs can be tricked to work a little as a test by heating them up with a hair dryer or getting them cold in a freezer. Try this and I bet it will fire up and run one more time if it is in fact the cdi that is bad. It will still have to be replaced. Heat works better than cold.

honda cdis are veary interchangable you can plug a 00 xr 70 cdi into a 85 350x and it will work fine the plugs are even the same

put new coil on and no fire and tested the stator by ricky stators specs and its good so must be the cdi?

i replaced all three of the above at the same time and voila I had spark
