I've had this one with a blown engine in the shed for a few years. I have stole a few parts off of it for my go girl. I don't know if I'm ready to part with 2 grand. But I need a project really bad. I figured I would look at it for a few days and think about it.

If I do it,, it will be a runner. But all the bearings, swing arm and shock need work, forks are shot. rear shock is shot. Needs skid plates and grab bar. At least $800 for the motor rebuild.

Alot of parts are in the mail for me rite now. I just got a take off axle nut in the mail today. Its pretty. And like new. :)
It took 30lbs of sand to sandblast my swingarm yesterday. It was to cold to paint it today. (I'm in Central Florida) wtf.
Cleaned bearing carrier today and installed new bearings and seals.
Piled up stuff for the next sandblasting.
I will start taking pics as soon as thingd start getting shiny. :)
Hers a pic to tide you over, don't hate me.

i got $2500 into my 85 350x resto/build atm and im expecting $3500ish total. i payed $1000 for it with a brand new crate engine, 430 stroker/big bore kit, frame gusset n powder coating, all new black plastics, port n polish and labor is all included. since im doing most of the labor aside from pressing in the sleeve and the porting its coming along pretty good. the only hold up is powroll is taking forever with my crank and big bore kit

Great job so far keep the pics coming! I totally understand about the cold weather slowing you down my garage isnt insulated that great and my winter projects will have to wait untill the weather hits about 45 degrees or higher. I cant work on my trikes if I cant feel my damn fingers! I would suggest gusseting that frame though.

The frame was already broken and welded, with a heavier gusset welded in, It was kind of a crappy ugly welding job but it will work.

I had one of those too, lasted 1 season and the seal leaked- suked. But, the parts to rebuild them are cheap............

Should get the frame rolling this weekend. I got some good parts in the mail. Forks and exhast and yesterday I got the motor. Ebay motor was WAY cheaper than rebuilding mine. Seems fine, I won't know for sure for a few more weeks when I install and run.
I'll get a few pics this weekend for sure. The frame is welded painted, and I installed the triple trees today.
As you all know cleaning EVERY SINGLE PART OBSESSIVELY takes a while.
This bike will be extreemly clean when i get done

Went to the beach fishing this morning, didn't get anything done today. (for everyone living in the cold weather let me say just one thing) HA HA. We caught 15 fish.
But I said I would get a pic up so here we go.
Its only 2:30, so the day is not over yet, I really want to get the exhast on. But my wife is making me go to the store. UURRR

ALMOST DONE :)
Got it fired up! Ran great for a $460 ebay motor. It really was rebuilt, I checked the oil filter, it was new, Looks like the cases were split, I see all new gaskets. My carb leaked out the overflow, and around the bowl. Got that fixed. Sucks taking everything off again.
Few more details, next week and weekend it should be going, still waiting and waiting for my 36 tooth sprocket.

Very nice...I love the pipe!

Thanks. I'm looking forward to riding it. It started on the 2nd kick.

02-09-2011, 12:23 AM
Its not done,,, but I rode it today. :) anyway. Front bakes leaked, fixed it, rode a little more. So far so good. Just wondering what jet I will need in the carb? I had to go up to a 152 on my show girl.
This bikes got a high compression piston, performance cam, DG header and pipe.
Putting a new spark plug in, and sticking a plug wrench in my pocket and running it down the road, run it hard, pull over and pull the plug for a look is the only way I know to figure it out.
Any guesses?

Got mine fired up yesterday as well...what carb are you running on that? I have a 2003 400ex carb, I was told to start at a 165 main and 42 idle...don't know what to do with stock. Funny about your brakes, mine did the same thing...I think I'll bleed them again tommorrow....

Foot pegs painted, dry tomorrow, Install... Another,,, trip to Ace Hardware, and I will be done!! Will post some GOOD pics this weekend.
sittinguy

I thought I was done, but almost. I put the final touches on it today, overflow hoses on the carb, foot pegs on, heat shield on header pipe.
Went for a ride,,, I knew the front wheel was a little bent, went for a top speed run and it was vibrating very bad,,, so more to to tomorrow.
I'm running the stock carb, and I need to rejet before I ride it again. I think I will try a 148 main.
Good pic here though. I got the whole fleet out for the final pic.
sittinguy
02-13-2011, 03:06 PM
Put a 150 main in the carb,, believe it or not its still a little lean. Damb the exhast is loud, and rude.

02-15-2011, 01:36 PM
The bikes look great!! I've hit a wall with mine. I'm running a 400 ex carb and I'm trying to get it jetted as well. No matter how big or small I go, it's like my engine hits a rev limiter right at the top of the ban, it just won't open all the way up. It didn't do this before I took it apart...I hope it's not mechanical!!
sittinguy
02-15-2011, 02:08 PM
Didn't you get a used CDI,, maybe its bad?
