Tecate cranks, can you use a 85 crank in a 86 case???

Ok fellas i've got 3 cranks and need to put together 2 86 tecate motors. 2 of them are 84/85 and 1 is a 86/87....

i need to know if anyone has put a 84/85 crank in a 86/87 case???

the only difference in the cranks is how the primary drive gear and water pump gear are held on. 84/85 is held on with a snap ring 86/87 is held on with a nut...

I'm 99% sure it will be fine but i'd like to know if anyone has done it before....

kx250's used the snap ring til at least 2004, i dont see a problem
