Its about time I did something with this old 83R. I got it a couple years ago in a trade. If you notice my signature, Ive been slowly collecting some old school parts for it. About a week ago, I started itching to do something with it. So, here goes another restoration. I will post pics as I go, should be fun. "Why an air cooled??" you may ask?? Because nobody else seems to have a bad azz modded free air R around here, thats why! I got some pretty cool parts so far, you'll see. Notice the air scoops on the tank. Those are old school Maier super 250R scoops, pretty neat, never seen another pair of them. I also have some engine mods in mind, and If I could just find a piston for the 300cc big bore kit I have...........

Nice. That will be one sweet arse air cooled 250r. But those scoops look familar. Maybe the super scoops off of a 200x? Nice job so far holic, cant wait to see the finished product.

trikeaholic my one friend has one of those 300 bigbore cylinders if you are interested in another one. the guy brought it over to check what bore size it was and thats when we found out it had it. they were a factory kit you could get for your 3 wheeler threw a honda dealer. you cant even get pistons for them anymore. that 84 r looks in nice shape. i heard from guys that raced back them that they are not much slower than a 85-86 r.

hey, my Tiger has a richter privateer silencer too. pretty cool part. I know the pistons are not available, but there has GOT to be some way to get it to work. I heard an Odessy piston could be used???

That's a decent air cooled trike you've got there. I have one of those 300 kit cylinders collecting dust on the shelf myself, I was told that Wiseco made a piston kit for it, this was 4 or 5 years ago. Did they discontinue them?

I would love to have a set of those scoops, I have a 3wheeling magazine from november of 1985, and DG also must have made those type of scoops. Because they are advertised in there.

I wasn't aware that an aircooled 250R was a problem.

Thats going to be an even sweeter ride when your done with it ... makes me miss my '83R.

I saw it, but I guess what Im really after is going to be "old school look" The 300 kit, DOES look like something special if you know what you are looking at, but not many people will see it and say "wow, thats got some cool old parts on it." I guess Im just worried about the fact that there are no pistons available, that means no sleeves, either. I already threw away some loot on my 300 kit, but I will keep it, someday, mabey I can figure out how to use it.

I have a pair of vintage rear racing H-Trac's on rims (903's or something..) MR ATC saw this pic in my manual binder and said they were rare and hang on to them! I'll look at them when I go down to the farm. I MIGHT part with them... I had them on my 350X last fall/winter and I didn't like the lack of ground clearence and it was a stiff ride. After knocking my rear skid plate off (clearance) and my tool box kit off from the rough ride, I'm not too sure I want to use them too much! :D

Wait.... I have a pic of them on my bike.... way before I started my resto this summer....

Don't forget, you can still buy the new hoosiers from Ronnie's both those like Tom Batts has on his 350x, and the famous triangle pattern tires...
