I had my eye on this three wheeler behind a customers shop and finally asked him what he wanted for it. He said it was the landlord's and if he didn't want anything for it I could have it! So I got the ok to pick it up and the rest is history. The tank and rear fenders were off, the ignition switch gone, no battery, seat, hitch, or rack. It was sittin on flats and the brake cables were locked up, and had to be drug out, but I'm a sucker for a cool project, and starting from $00 is not a bad deal. So I proceeded to degrease and pressure wash it to death, replace the leaking valve stems so it would look somewhat presentable when I brought it home. The first items I replaced were the cables, plug fluids and filter, got a rebuild kit for a replacement carb i got off of ebay. Next I got a sealed battery and repaired everything that had been cut by soldering and heatshrink with a new ignition switch. I also cleaned the multiswitch, and got a replacement petcock cause the barb was broke off of mine. I then began work on the tank, I ground of the rusted areas at the bottom rear of the tank cleaned it out really well and mixed up some marine grade epoxy to fill the holes from the outside and then I used some KB Coatings and sealed the inside of the tank. The tank was about 95% good but just for the added protection I did it anyways. I robbed a CDI and intake boot clamp a headpipe off a 200 Xmodel. I replaced the CDI off of my BigRed along with the harness, solder and heatshrink of course! I replaced the grips with some Scotts and made a custom muffler from a twin cylinder riding mower mufler, complete with a slip-fit connection so the exhaust could be removed for repairs later on. I sealed up and tightened up the recoil and then ordered replacement rear fenders, seat and rack off of a super clean 200m. I am currently awaiting on my 29x12x9 ITP swamplites and a factory start button and a promark 2500lb winch with sythetic rope that will be attached to the front fork via a custom mount where the factory rack once was. Old BigRed is running good now and really quiet, perfect for those stealth trips hunting in the woods! I'm kicking around the idea of tearing it all down and getting it powdercoated and the tank repainted with fresh Honda BigRed decals and rebuilding the forks......... I'm sure after I pay off the current damage I might do it!http://i492.photobucket.com/albums/rr287/jamminjimmi/big%20red/DSC00216.jpg

Have you had it runnning? What modifications did you have to make to get it to run with a cdi off a 200x.

Maybe I read the Cdi part wrong when I read it again it made more sense. I wish more people would let somebody have something that they are just going to leave there to rust. It really looks great what you have done so far.

Thats awesome! There is one here sitting I wanted, talk to the old guy and he got mad and didn't want to sell it. I even offered to bring by a copy of the service manual, he refused it. He didn't want to get it running but doesn't want to sell it. Now its just sitting in a snowbank.

Awesome to see someone give them away when they are just sitting.

The diff with the 200es cdi was the one grey wire that runs to the reverse sensor, the 200es cdi had a round plug and the 200x had a square plug. I just heat shrank the end of the grey wire since it had no place in the plug AND it still doesn't start in reverse like I had read from another post on this site. The aquisition was free BUT I've racked up a good $1100 in parts, I could have saved that and gone and bought something different, but it's solid runs great isn't missing anything and it's pretty clean. I went for a ride with a friend to pick up an "unknown" barnyard 3 wheeler this last weekend and was excited to see what it was.......the guy had forgot it had 4 wheels and was an old Suzuki lt125!!! I will take my big red any day over that turd!
