I bought a new white clarke for MY 85'R,- the holes didnt line up quite enough. No matter how hard I tried to pull on it! I later installed a 2nd new white one for a buddy for HIS 85'R- the holes didnt line up quite enough also! About a 1/4 " off again. Almost ruined mine trying to make it work. (leave the rear holes alone if you get one!). The 2nd time around,-I fabbed 2 thin 1/4" aluminum spacers for under each of the front 2 mounts so it would line up.-and it didnt alter the tank at all. But it sucks to have to go thru this. You must also install the rubber mounts from your old tank too. .... And the gas cap seal rubber didnt last 6 months and just crumbled into tank. (Leaks gas right away onto your new tank as you ride.) Oh yeah,- its turning yellow after about 1 1/2 years.....I havent heard any other complaints tho?

Dammit!

I've fixed some pretty deep cracking on OEM tanks. You sure it can't be fixed?

Thanx for the imput guys. As far as trying to save it...looks like alot of sanding that I'm not willing to do. I'd rather just spend the money for a tank and consentrate my efforts elsewhere on the project. My hat's off to whoever has spent the time to grind away all the spider cracking.
