Got my new 200watt ricky stator today and installed it, something is terribly wrong. I cannot get a continuous spark from it, it is so intermittent. Works, then doesnt, so on and so forth. It also seems to stop sparking halfway through kicking it, then once the kickstarter has stopped turning, about 2 seconds later it sparks? Like it delays then a fat blu spark can be seen. It is an 85 harness with an 87trx motor and 87 trx stator and pickup. Will this not work with my 85 cdi? Im bummed. MY stock stator sparks but it is a weak orange spark.

Any help appreciated.

Matt

some cdis are damb near unizersal some arnt wireing can be changed to make them work the best cdi to work with is out of a yamaha 1981 mx 80 i know they will work on a atc 185 200 250 and 350 all green wires to frame brown cdi to black/red motor
white/red cdi to blue or blue/yellow motor orange cdi to coil on the 250 and 350 the black cdi to green/yellow on the other motors black cdi to frame

the probem is the capasator is not geting enough power and it will charge until it has enough to spark and complet the curcit
there are sites that better explain the desine of these systems a little reading can save alot of $$$

Alright, got it sorted. It seemed they had the wires into the plug the wrong way around. Works good now, however my bike is still spluttering at wot, not wuite as bad but its still there. Im out of ideas. Dont know where to go from here.

Thanks to all.

you still need a little more power from the sator or make shure the pickup and the magnent that sets it off are really
clean even to long of wires from the pickup can cause a high speed miss

another problem that happened to me is to much power can make your kill swich arc at high speed i notest this when riding at night

sputtering at top end can be a number of things not just electrical.
Too much fuel at wot
Too little fuel at WOT
Not enough air flow at WOT
Sparkplug GAP (if your runjning a higher comp pisotn that stock, you probelby need to lower the stock gap from .028 to like .025 or even .024
Coil could be bad ( i had a problem where it started an dan, but once you got goign would spudder, after checkjign everythign else, ti was determiend to be a bad plug wire. we replaced the coil and wire and everything was perfect after that.
