View Full Version : Tecate Build # 2 finally started (and now finished)

So I finally got around to taking some pics of my second Tecate build. After I sold the green one (http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php?106007-Got-a-green-one-in-the-stable....) I realized I had enough parts left over to do a second one. With a little help from a few forum members I gathered some missing pcs and started the assembly a few weeks ago. Motor is stock with a sleeved cylinder, all engine/ transmission bearings and seals were replaced, all new wheel and axle bearings/seals as well as swinger bearings. this motor had a new Stator in it and Mr Swinehart provided the new epoxied flywheel and chain slider. All hard parts were re-plated thanks to tecate-z and I also opted for a stainless bolt kit from fastener guy. I got this one partially disassembled and there was missing bolts, by the time I added all those up at the dealer I was close to the bolt kit and now I have a bunch of extra freshly plated spare stuff. Color scheme is obviously going to be red and white, custom cosmic quads seat in the works soon. Finished up the engine assembly today and snapped a few pics. Hope you enjoy.
We'll see in the spring if this one stays in the fleet.

Tapper, It's in the basement, I just pull the rear axle and wheel it up the stairs, easier than heating the garage.
Tecate 50 Yea I'll get together with you and Ed sometime soon on the tank, Might have to do a early Silver lake trip or something.
Thanks for the kind words guys.

Well I'm 99% done on this Tecate, It's out of the basement, all loose ends tidied up except for the tank. the green tank is temporary for a few more weeks, I've got a red one lined up to complete the color scheme. thanks to Mosh's for the seat, Excellent work as always.
Stay tuned for a final picture run when the red tank gets here.

Well I finally got the red tank polished up and on the Tecate so it is officially finished. Man these Tecate's look like they are just dying for a +2" swinger to look right. Many thanks to some of the members here, tecat-z for the cylinder and plating, tecate 50 for the red tank, Mosh's for the awesome custom seat, John Swinehart for the reproduction parts and epoxied flywheel, tecate guys for the group buy on plastics, and others.
She's going out tomorrow for a good ride at the local ride spot (Gopher Dunes), We'll see if it stands up to par with my R, I'm thinking it will stick around for a while unless someone just has to have it;) $$$$

I did have everything re-plated but ended up getting a bolt kit from "fastener guy" off E-bay. I was missing quite a few bolts and this was an easier option in the long run.

Very nice Ross! Impressive.
I missed your R build....(got a link??)
Did you get your replating done with the same guy you gave me info on when we PC'd your R?? I know it's been awhile.... I'm finally ready to send the twenty pound box of old used hardware and bolts for replating. Just wanted to ask before giving him a call.
Really dig the plating work you've done! Nice axle!! Thanks for any help!

Yes Andy it's the same guy that had it done. You didn't miss the R build, I just pulled the frame out and started sorting all the hardware, chasing thread and generally getting my ducks in a row on that one. Still going to be a while till it's done but I will keep a detailed picture thread as I go.
Thanks guys.

Ross, that trike is looking top notch, can't wait to see it on the next Ganny ride.
Where did you get your bolts and stuff plated? I found a place in buffalo but they seem a little expensive.
