I am looking at this 350x tonight. All I know so far is it don't run...but used to a couple of years ago
Here is the email I received"I have a honda 350r that ran well when I parked it not sure if it will run now but willing to check the rear end needs replaced the bearings went out and chewed up the swing arm I think. If you would like make me an offer maybe a little work and it will run again."
What do you think it is worth and what should I look for?

Also I would like to add he said he went out today and the motor turns over freely. The pictures taken were requested by me so I know he has not just had them from years ago.

Check the frame for cracks on the left side above the footpeg, where the two 'tabs' for the seat meet the frame, and any other part you can see well.

See if the swingarm slides side to side; my frame was junk because of that and the swinger holes became enlarged and ovaled.

Check the exhaust studs, they usually break during removal. It looks rough in the pictures, I'd say a $300-$400 machine tops. Could be more if the fenders are OEM and not cracked and are only covered in dirt.

Also check for working brakes. Every rear caliper I find is seized.

pretty cool. honestly if u just clean it bet it would be not bad at all. its amazing that it has the original seat cover, and rear fenders, with the mud flap! if those arent broke or cracked or anything they r worth a ton. could just be the carb all gummed up but who knows. i would ask him if u could check for spark, and compression. or u try dont try to make it sound better then it is and get it super cheap. hard to say with small pics but if the gas tank doesnt leak, the fenders arent horrible broke, and seat not ripped, thats a lot right there. check the side of the motor by the front sprocket to make sure it didnt get thrown and crack the case. its pretty common. with those details in check i would pay $500-$600 or so.

i dont think it could be that bad just by going off the tires remaining tread. i think they might be original, if so they dont show much wear. so thats a good sign of fairly lower hours as compared to many machines that r that old.

That would be a nice example to rebuild. Some of the parts might still be good. That mud flap is worth 100$ if it is still usable and in good condition.

There was one in my area that is worse, I doubt it ever sold and it was on craigslist for $300

The motor looks promising and the mileage doesn't look to be that high because of all the oem parts still on it. It would be a good buy below $400, see if he will take $300?

It has the rare "Big Red" rack conversion kit so you gotta add that to the value. Looks like a great start really.

Looks like is done more sitting than riding. Looks like a great start. Never seen racks on a 350X before. I would offer $200, but be willing to pay more. If they think they have a 350R they don't really know what they have other than an old three wheeler. Ask them what they think its worth, sometime they think its worth less than you would start at, talk them down from there. Looking at it if it has compression and the fenders look good and has a lot of good OEM parts on it I would pay $700 for it, but I would never tell they guy who owns it that unless that what he thinks its worth.

I want that front and rear rack.

OK let's just say I get this 3 wheeler which has been sitting for 6-10 years. What would you guys do before you even attempted to start it up?

Clean the entire fuel system including tank. Change the oil and oil filter (dont put it in backwards). Install a new air filter. Pull the sparkplug out and put a little oil in the cylinder and cycle the motor by hand before you kick on it. May as well put a new plug in it also.

Add an inline fuel filter too. I would clean the carb before attempting to start it because even if it starts your going to want to rebuilt the carb. I usually clean the jets out and re-use the factory jets and just clean them real well. Usually the float bowl gasket will seal back up fine. You can always put a new gasket kit on the carb later if it runs good. And adjust your valve clearances.

NEW AIR FILTER! honestly its huge. get a new one and oil it. no one does this and it can cause huge motor problems if its old and dusty.

so:

new air filter (oiled)
new spark plug
clean carb (jets and bowl)
all new gas
new oil and oil filter
and yes probably should do a little oil in the spark plug hole before u crank it over.

its always hard to be patient when u first get something and want to just see if it will start but u will do more damage then good.

I would say 3-400 for this bike. If he is really interested in maximizing what he sells it for, he would have already pulled it out of its dirt cocoon. If the rear end needs work, it starts adding up real quick. Have a look in the fuel tank. If its rusted bad, more $ to fix or replace. Good luck. Could be a good project.

Get it. Like Tattool said about the tires, it looks to be a low hour machine. I noticed it's got a Maine tag on the front- Have you asked the guy about it's history.
IMO, it looks too good to pass up for the $$

check that case real good. If he rode it and threw the chain could have a cracked case.

Looks like a good bike, the swinger is probably ok, probably the carrier that is toast. Let us know if you get it, how far is it from you?

It was a 2 hour drive to look at the trike but I think it turned out to be worth the drive:cool: The trike was already pulled out with air in the tires when I got there. I pushed down the kicker and it sure seems like there was compression. After a quick walk around we came to the conclusion it was worth $200 :Bounce:Bounce:Bounce
I brought it back to my office and started taking things off and cleaning. It sure seems like everything is there! Here is today's progress...nothing major but I will be trying to start it next week (our Honda dealer is closed till after the holiday's and I need to get a air cleaner and oil filter).

The rear carrier is REALLY shot...alot of play. Where should I start looking for that item and should I go aftermarket. What kind of money do you think it will take?

check out ebay. You scored. It looks better than I thought. How is the seat? It looks great for oem. Are the tires good as well? Those oem tires are worth $$ as well. Very nice buy sir.

I'm actually very jealous right now.... lol Nice score. You could put 1000 bucks into it and still be ahead of the curve but it looks like with some time and MAYBE 300 you'll have a nice runner. Keep us posted.

you can get the oil filter and ATV oil, and spark plug at NAPA for less than what the Honda shop will charge for it, as for the air filter I'd recommend ebay to get a good price. Idk how much experience you have with ATCs or ATVs in general, but in my experience atv shops tend to be extra proud of the stuff they sell.

It looks like the tank may have been repaired so keep an eye on that when you put fuel in it if it leaks get ahold of SYKO on here about repairing it, I'm having him do mine as soon as I get my taxes back.
