Can someone help me with my cold ilde problem on my 84 200s? It starts fine with a little throttle but will not idle. After a mile or so it generally will idle just fine. I have had the carb off and apart for a cleaning and nothing looked too gummy or dirty. I have been riding this atc daily and is getting quite annoying. Thanks for any help. Karl

Also uou maybe suffering carb icing! Mine does the same as yours. Once warmed up it does well. The fuel is freezing due to it dropping temp as it is being sucked into the engine. Needs more choke and rpm to keep it going until the engine heat is able to keep the fuel from freezing. Feel the carb next time when you get it running!

as I recall, something like an .008" guitar string will fit thru a slow jet but you can see thru them and they will run ok when warm if they are closed down to almost nothing.
HRT nailed it, find a new one in case you ruin the old one by attempting the specifically UNrecommended wire brush bristle cleaning method.
The crud I've fought with in those jets is almost like tooth enamel plaque that dentists use sharp pointed tools to remove.
Sure wish I knew the actual size of that jet in thousandths of an inch so I could hand twist the correct drill bit since that plaque can be so hard it almost feels like you're drilling a new hole.
I guess smart people would soak the jets overnight in something.
Anyway...
Be happy that those carbs come off and on so easily.
I think my neighbor has it down to under 15 min, off, apart, cleared and back on running.
Almost nothing more comforting than a well behaved idle
