View Full Version : Bent Swingarm, Need Help!

Well I came home to my garage today to do some riding, and found that my 200x racer wasn't how I left it. Turns out my brother-in-law took my 200x for a ride, wrecked it and decided not to tell me about it . Needless to say now I have a seriously twisted Westcoast swingarm. I pulled the swingarm off but I am now in need of somebody to repair it. If there is somebody on here with the tools and expertise to do this let me know. The sooner I can have this done the better as my motor will be done sometime in January. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance! xrider

Dang.. You'd have to do something serious to bend a Westcoast arm.. What happened?

I agree, according to him he rolled it in my woods after hitting a log that was laying on the path. Which leads me to think, why would he trail ride it through the woods anyway? It has 18" tires, a +4 axle, and a Westcoast +2, obviously not a woods or trail bike. Stuff like this really drives me nuts.

I would have bent his swing arm. Where do people get off thinking they can just ride machines that do not belong to them? Did he have previous permission? Sorry to hear about that. This may be a dumb idea, but maybe a frame or collision shop could straighten it.

I gave him a spare key to my garage so he could use my tools. I've never gave him permission to ride. He told me he wanted to take his friend for a ride, so they were taking turns riding my 200x, which really makes me mad. They don't understand that you can't just buy another one of these, it took me three years to find this one. They did a job to my rear fenders too. I thought about a collision shop, but I would feel way more comfortable if someone worked on it that appreciates three wheelers and knows the value of it.

I'm sorry to just add fuel to the fire here, I wish I had some more helpful information.
I would have that man's balls in a sling. That is absolutely out of line. It's 100% wrong of him to even touch it, let alone ride it, let alone let HIS FRIEND ride it! You should seriously just walk up to him and crack him one in the jaw. What a dick.
That is all.

No pics yet, but I can try to get some. I leveled the frame in a fixture with the left side tire touching the ground to see how bad it was, the right side tire was a good 2-3 inches off the ground :(. Once I took it off the trike, a level confirmed the same thing. It's gonna really bother me until it's fixed; It's the best three wheeler I have. This was my first full build I did, I hate seeing it in bad shape. More bad news too, I now have three small dents in the muffler of my Supertrapp exhaust.

WTF?!?! I'm with Fabio, he'd have his balls in a sling by now. Sounds like you should do a few things when you leave your trikes alone, like remove the carb or throttle assembly ;)

You are sure it is the swingarm and not the axle?

He said he removed the swinger and measured it.

Anything bent can be fixed, but - Thats a rare swinger, if someone bent mine they'd be forking out 1000$ for the cost of another one, PC'ing it, stickers and bearings.
Unfortunately, thats a tough swinger to find. It's got be be pretty seriously twisted. I have to see it but I'm not sure if it will ever be right again and the shock mount is probably off as well.
I agree with the other guys, this guy is a dick for touching your property. What a shame............

Yes it is definantly the Swingarm. I have checked it several times :(.

Off of the bike it doesnt look as bad, but still noticeable. When it is mounted on the bike with the axle in, it is really bad. It looks like he tried riding it after it happened too, as the sprocket studs wore a groove into the swingarm. Now no one will be allowed in my garage now. I have a stock 350x, two 110's, a 200s, etc. All of which wouldn't of been a big deal to wreck. But of course he had to wreck the one with all of the rare parts on it. What really makes me mad is that he didn't even really care. I baby that 200x, never take it in mud, wash it after each ride, it usually only ever is ridden on a track. I hate when stuff life this happens. Dirtcrasher, do you think this is something that you could repair?

If anybody can do it, it's Dirtcrasher. I'll go over there help him personally if you send it to him.

With a carrier being 6"s or so long, a little bit off there is ALLOT of off extended out 5' from tire to tire......
I'd like to see it, I bet it's twisted but the front may be fine. Get those pics up!!
I'm sure it would need a fixture and probably some heat to twist it back and then everything checked with a dial indicator.

DirtCrasher and Fabio to the rescue I hope. Im with the rest of the guys, thats a super rare part and serious money and some ass kissing is in order. Im sure the guy knows that this isnt just some everyday rider beat around Trike but a serious Build it sounds like with the parts described so far. Thats just not acceptable. I would get as much money from him and cut his ass off. When he crashed it and never told you that tells you everything you need to know about him. I dont think I could get over that one if a friend did it to me. Thses Trikes and parts dont grow on trees. Its like stealing your buddys Hemi Cuda for a joy ride and crashing it. Irreplacable and expensive in time and cash. Id cut him off totally. Good luck

Why haven't you kicked his ass yet? I'd kick someones ass if they wrecked my trike after stealing it for an afternoon with no intentions of letting me know, and it's just a peice of junk.

Here are the pictures. I leveled the front of the swingarm and then measured the height each side of the carrier was above the table. The left side of the carrier is just over a 1/4" lower than the right side.

If I were to fix it, I'd lathe up a piece to keep the pivot inline. Then make 2 carrier area spacers for a long strong heavy shaft for the back. Bolt it down to the 3000lb mill and twist it back.
I'd imagine the axle must/hub or wheel had to bend also?
It's not as bad as I thought it would be honestly; He's still a dick
Like I said before, .250 in 6 or 8 inches is 1.5"s at either wheel. I use to tell the idiots with ductwork "Your off a half inch!!" to which they'd say "Whats the big deal man?!" Well 1/4" 60 feet down the trunkline looks like train on a corner
Billy Golightly has swingarm jigs. He may be able to fix that..Ask him.

The axle, wheels, hubs, and frame are all still perfect somehow.

That sux!!! But it most likely can be repaired, westcoast were not the strongest swingers out there and they did make a HD swinger later on but either way a rare piece today, I hope you can get it fixed up soon.

Give him a choice: Either pay to repair/buy another(hopefuly), PC, everything....
Or sell a kidney.

Guys think Westcoasts are tough. Look how tapered and small the area is at the pivot? It's probably tweaked there and throwing the whole back off.
They just LOOK sweet!!

I dont think this west coast is weak or will bend

I have to get someone else with some muscle over here. I put a solid 3" 5' long shaft in the back, secured the front and I could lift my end but he couldn't hold it. We swapped positions and he couldn't hold it down.
I just can't understand why no paint is missing at the welds and the 2 long tapered arms do not appear twisted. Usually the paint/PC cracks where the bend is..........
Next up is an 8' long shaft and someone who's a bit stronger than my last helper
