View Full Version : 85/86 250R Question...
I ended up getting a brand-new-in-the-wrapper, sure enough factory Honda service manual for the 85/86 250R off of ebay for a grand total of $15. That includes shipping! :-D Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then!!
Anyway, my question concerns the front brake hose hardware. In the manual I see a hose guide that appears in the service manual to bolt onto the fork right above the caliper to guide the hose around the fork. My R fork doesnt have the place to bolt it on. I do not have this part. Whats the deal with it? Where does it bolt too?
Thanks!

it bolts somewhere near the caliper, i know the top guide bolts on with the screws that tightened the triple clamps.

If you look close enough at the part of the manual where they talk about the front caliper, you will see that it goes inside the fork, and the top bolt that holds the caliper to the fork goes though the hole on this piece. It holds the cable as it goes inside the fork and round towards to front. Hope this makes sense.

i would say jeb, that the manual is correct....there is supposed to be a 2 bolt tab ,to which you would bolt your bracket ....sounds like someone ground yours off..........in which case i think i would just use a couple zip ties to keep the brake hose away from the tire....good luck
ps.. i know he means well but i got no idea what wi 350x is talking about...lol

Jeb that part that the hose clamp bolts to on the left fork right above caliper and next to tire should be built in on the fork. Look to see if someone may have removed that part with a grinder or something, why someone would do that is beyond me, should be pretty obvious if they did, it would scratched up in that area. Look in Chapter 10 page 13 of your Service manual and look at second pic and tell me if thats what your are talking about.

Bolt #19 in your pic goes through the hose guide.
I forgot to go look again yesterday. :(
When I rebuilt the forks weekend before last, I polished the lower tubes up some with scotchbrite and did not see any machining or grinding marks. I have two sets of forks to check. If the hose guide is held on by one of the caliper mounting screws (screw 19 in pic), that would make sense. but that's not the way the manual depicted it.
Info is greatly appreciated!! :-D

Bolt #19 in your pic goes through the hose guide.
The part you circled in the pic bolts to the fork not the caliper. You should have a small bracket cast with the left fork just above caliper, if it not there then someone must have cut it of or took a grinder to it.

oops. I was describing different piece. I was describing part on front. The pic shows the one that goes on the back of fork. top hole.

Actually it is the Top caliper mount bolt. The bolt goes through the hose bracket Jeb circled, through the top caliper mount hole on the back of the left fork and then screws into the caliper mount bracket. On page 10-13 of the service manual, middle picture, where it points to the 2 caliper mount bolts, the dark section under the top bolt is the mount tab of the bracket he circled in the first post. I can't make it any clearer. If he would have ground that down, there would be no place to mount the caliper. The only other tab on the left fork is the where the other (2 piece) cable bracket mounts, just above the caliper mount, except on the front side of the fork. Two totally different hose brackets.

As I said, there are two totally separate brake hose brackets. The one further up the fork on the front which has its own tab with two holes in it. That bracket comes in two pieces with two bolts that hold it on. Then there is another bracket, which is in Jeb's blow up from the parts microfiche, that bracket attaches using ONE bolt, the top Caliper mount bolt, and sits on the inside of the fork to keep the brake hose away from the wheel as it goes from the front of the fork to the caliper mounted on the back. That is why the picture of it is included in the front caliper section of the microfiche.
The other bracket (the one with its own tab) is pictured in the front fork section of the parts microfiche.

No Problem. I am sorry too that I came off as a know it all. I very rarely post unless I have something to add to the conversation, and I wanted to make sure that we were all on the same page. Now hopefully Jeb (who this post was for) got the info he needed.

my 85 250r (which i thought was complete and original) doesn't even have that bracket..its only got the 2 bolt clamp deal thats up a little on the front side............o well it works just fine ...good luck jeb
Yes, I'm clear on it now. Thanks guys! I need to look at the manual pic again, I thought it was showing an extra boss on the fork to bolt that on.
:-D
I don't know what i was looking at. In the Factory Service Manual, it clearly shows it held on by the top caliper mount screw, not an extra boss on the fork.
