The old Tecate was due for a freshening. I hadn't ridden it in quite some time, probably over a year. It still ran fine when parked but was getting a little tired. I ended up doing the top end over with an NOS 84 KX250 jug and Wiseco piston, put in a 300EX shock, and replaced the rear axle bearings. I haven't ridden it other than up and down the road, but I think the 300EX shock is going to be way too stiff. I would like to try and put the spring from the Tecate's shock on the EX shock. I'm not yet sure if it's going to work.
I would like to thank Johnny Swinehart for his many contributions, 3Razors for giving me a killer deal on the NOS 84 KX250 jug, and SBLT500R for giving me the red gas tank.

Sweeeeeeeet pipe! of course! So cool having a brand new OEM cylinder, must be nice knowing you wont need a topend for a long time! I would love to go back to an OEM cylinder even after putting all that work into my BB. There is a KX cylinder on Ebay that has been calling my name but my wife would would kill me:lol: Its only $275. IMO pretty cheap. Man those Honda guys are going to love this thread title :D

Looking good.. and I agree that pipe is sharp. So what do you think about the KX cylinder compared to what you had?

Yeah, I'd like to know how it does over the stock, as mine had a KX jug on it already.
Looking really sharp too

Thanks. I don't know about the power difference yet. I've only blasted up and down the industrial park where I work and I haven't really laid into it yet. Just trying to break it in a little bit.

That pipe is sweet. I really like the Tecate sticker on the front fender, looks perfect. I'm confused (?), that's your green right? If so, was it hard to get used to the color change, like?: "Whose effin' trike is parked in my spot.......oh yea, that's mine", lol!!!

That is in fact the green one, yes. I'm not sure how I feel about the color change. I think it looks great, but the first thing people ask me now is "what kind is it?" There is no mistaking that a green Tecate is made by Kawasaki. That much I do miss.

Kwit your whining you can always look at mine with your green plastics on it and remember what it looked like untill the group buy for plastics goes through in the spring. I think that it looks like the bees knees kid

Thank you and I have one brief video of it running. The only time I ran it I found out really fast that there was a crack in the left engine case. I disassembled it the next day and got dumped by my ex shortly after that. The disassembled 500 got tossed in boxes for the move and there she sits. It's very sad actually.

that sucks, you should get her put back together and start running it again. a new case for the kx500 motor shoulb be a hell of a lot cheaper than a tecate 250 case.

I already have the case and all the bearings to swap it out. It just needs to be done. I have many, many projects including a garage build and a supercharged Mustang just to name a few. I did this mild overhaul on my 85 Tecate at my work during the day when I wasn't busy and it really didn't take that long. I may just bring my 500 in someday and put it back together here.

and for the record, I do have a pair of these shoes. I think I have problems. the only tecate I don't have is the 3 wheeler...but thats mostly because I have little faith in kawasaki..and this is coming from some one who has owned/owns Kawasakis.

Cool. That pipe is sweet.
BTW, John Swinehart said his KX jug has less bottom end but rips better on the mid and top if I remember right.
