depends on your local department of motor vehicles rules. ny has them posted online. was harder for me to get a new title issued from ny. pa was a little easier and i went that route. sometimes bill of sale, vin trace, form, and fee is all that is needed.

Like Sportvette said, its different in every state. Virginia is fairly easy through "AVP" (Abandoned Vehicle however it is about a month+ long process and ends up costing around $75

its a nice resale bonus.. and it a document with your name proving ownership.. Its not a big deal, but for $75 bucks i'd try to get it

So if you do get a title you're going to carry it around with you while you ride? Bozo...

I sell trikes all over the country and you guys are right some States don't do the title deal and some States mine being the worst wants the bikes to be titled . In California not only do the bike need to be registed with the DMV we get what is called a Green sticker that must be on your bike while riding . If you don't have green sicker the Rangers will ticket you . Oh ya they get to collect $50.00 a year for each green sticker but the money is supposed to go to help keep places like Glamis open so I guess it is worth it . You should probably call you Motor Vehicle dept and see what the process is in your State .

We register 'em out here too, but you don't need a title. Just a bill of sale.

I'm sure all states are different on this as well, but anything after 06 (as far as ATV's / Dirt Bikes) are concerned in Virginia need to be titled, how this is checked on I really have no clue as we are not required to register them, however as an added bonus when you get a title for anything through the Abandoned Vehicle Process here you can basically make a two stroke legal for the street :D (as far as being registered is concerned) and anything over 25 years old can have antique plates ($50) that are permanent and inspection exempt (I'm working on having a street legal Husqvarna 500XC:D) the drawback to having a title in VA is personal property tax, however antiques have a flat rate of $5 per year not a bad deal if you like riding 2-Strokes on the street as signals arent required on bikes here, all you really need is a brake light switch... (sorry for wandering off topic a bit)
