I have a Keihin 36mm Flat slide PJ carb that i wanna use on my '86 350X. i can do this right?? i mean i know i need a different throttle cable, but it will work right?? there isnt such a thing as a 2-stroke carb to a 4-stroke carb right?? i was pretty sure of this until i was going to switch it and just saw how different they really are and then realized that it really seems that way between all 2-stroke and 4-stroke carbs. the 4-strokers are all big bulky carbs with the side mechanism to control the slide and the 2-strokers are all smaller and thin with the cable going directly into the slide to pull it up. help me out here guys or confirm my thoughts. thanks.

fuel will flow diferently because of them being made for a thicker fuel passing, 2strk carbs have larger jet sizes and might be hard to get the size you need for the size of carb you want to use.

So as long as the jets r the right size it's fine??

Most modern 4-strokes use a CV carb (cable opens the butterfly on the side) and it will not work on a 2 stroke.

In a nutshell, all a carb does is regulates the control of fuel and air into the engine. The engine will run, but only if the carb can deliver an appropriate fuel mixture. My guess is it will be running very rich if you try a 2 stroke carb on a 4 stroke.

a 2 stroke will pull more air than a 4 stroke...that being said there is carbs designed specifically for a 2 or 4 stroke, but you could make one work for the other, just not easily

why not try a fcr carb or 400ex carb?

In a nutshell yes it'll work. Jet it. Biggest difference is how the the carbs go about choking themselves. My X has a 38mm PE on it from its previous owner and god does it haul

theres alot of trial and error in doing that ive got lucky a few times but some times i lost power but if there close to the same size bore they can usually be jetted ive put a yz 250 carb on my freinds 250r becase his needle jet broke it needed to go a bit leaner but it was ok

There is a reason a Cr250 and a Crf450 have different carbs, Or Yz and YZF, or Rm, and RMZ.... you get the idea
It WILL work but defently isnt the proper way to get things done. Carbs are cheap, just find a stock 400ex carb and get that dialed in. If you really want the peformance out of it get a FCR off of a 250f dirtbike.

a flat slide carb off a 2-stroke wont have an accel. pump like a 400ex carb would have. r u swapping carbs to try n get more power, or just to get it runnings? if trailprotrailpro lookin for power i'd go 400ex carb, great carb/accel pump. the flat side 36mm once properly jetted will work, but u won't see the gains like a 400ex carb. good luck
