I have a set of Carlisle Strykers that I don't much care for so I am thinking about taking the saw zaw and cutting out some of the tread they do nt work well on snow and I think this will help. Has anyone tried altering thier tires?

Just so you know next time.. It's a sawzall.. I don't think it would work well on tires. You need a tire groover.

Why would you link to a thread I made on another site?

i did a set of turf tamers with a razorblade without a handle, clamped in a pair of vice grips. took me 8 hours. i definately dont recommend this method, but it jut to say anything is possible.

If they were as hard as TrailPros, I'd suggest a chisel and a big ass hammer.

i also have strykers and have thought the same thing, i want to take some of the outter knobbys out. but for mud because they clog up.

work great in snow though, the big red proved this today for me.

i wish i had that luck! I had them on my 200e and they would just spin so I put my knobbies on and then could go though 8" snow

gonna cut out the inside knobbs to make room for the muffler and then alternate removing the other knobbs. still gotta figure out how to deal with the long center tread! I'll do a search on tire groover, mo idea what one could cost?

i modified a set of strykers... I cut the tips off the centers bars off so that they no longer overlapped.. then I removed three knobs between each bar.. Giving the effect of extended tread bars out to the edge.. when it was all said and done the tires still sucked pretty bad. They didnt hook up at all unless ran nearly flat, and then handled horrible with low air pressure.. plus the sheer weight of them saps alot of power... However my experience was trail riding on a two stroke quad, they may work just fine on a small four stroke trike in some mud or something.. A lil trick i like to do when I cut tires is use my angle grinder with a wire wheel to buff the carcass smooth where the knobs used to be.. doesnt help performance any, but looks much cleaner and it only takes a minute. i have tried cutting 3 different types of carlisle tires (trail pro, stryker, badlands) with very little sucess in improving any performance... but its fun to experiment sometimes and they look cool when finished, and if nothing else a lil bit lighter in weight.

use the sawzall and run water over the blade as a cooling lubricant
