Hi guys,

Just picked up a 1981 185s for $50...rough, but complete...sat under a shed for 15 years, no joke...amazingly, cleaned the carb with 2.50 bottle of spray, new plug, adjusted ignition timing, clean gas, and it runs! Can't beat a Honda...lol
Naturally, it's smoking like a freight train...I'm sure the valve guide seals have gotta be shot, good compression, so I hope the rings/piston are ok, but my question is about the pipe...
Is it normal for buildup inside the pipe (ie, old oil and soot) to contribute to the smoke after sitting for so long, then getting hot again? I've let it run for about 10 minutes, no change, except that it smokes worse under load...runs pretty strong, actually...I'm suprised! Smoke is white...also, I can smell fuel, so I'm sure it's running a little rich. The valves are tapping like a pea thrasher, so I'm going outside now to check the lash...
Sorry for the long post...any help?
Joe

This happened to me with my YTM200ER. Turns out a mouse or something was using the muffler to store food. Took the muffler off and roasted it in a campfire for a few hours, it helped but I'll have to do it again. Does it smoke for a little bit after you shut it off? If so I would say it's time to break out the marshmallows.

Still might be in the motor as well but this isn't a hard fix so......
