Hi guys so a few years ago i picked up a trx 300 2wd motor in hope to put in a big red. After further review the engine was toast and would need alot of work. Fast forward to today, i was at school looking at kijiji and saw a guy local 110818110819that was parting out a 1990 trx300 with a 2wd engine in it. So i called him and bought this for 100 bucks, came with the carb and throttle cable.

Do i need the complete 300 wiring harness. I understand that i will be swapping out the output shaft with the 250 but im looking for some feedback as to what else i need to do to get the most power out of this baby.

Another question: While i am going over the 300 motor, can i stick the 300 carb on my 250sx without re-jetting? any difference?

hmmm. i think you can check the exact specs of jet sizes by calling a dealership (honda) or actually its best to go in, because they will more than likely not want to talk to you over the phone. but for the wiring harness......the cdi's probably is different...........i think the 300 has more wiring coming out of the stator. OK, here is what to do, bring up both wiring diagrams for the 300 and 250, compare/contrast the differences, thats what i would do. I know this process because i work as a electrical technician for toyota dealership. i go through this same stuff every day lol. it would seems as if the 300 fourtrax needed a high voltage for the spark than the 250? so you'll just have to check the wiring diagrams, hope this helps : ).

Ya so i read that i will need the 300 wiring harness, i can easily find one on ebay im sure. As for the carb i have a cobra exhaust and uni filter on the bike. I will just have to try and see how it runs. I wonder if i would even feel a difference. I used to run a 350x carb but i am lazy and did not like the setup of the manual choke.

Will i be able to feel a low end power difference? i use this bike for hunting and mudding so i dont need speed but i do need as much torque as i can get.

You can get a gear reduction for it, to greatly reduce gearing. This allows mudders with the TRX300 to run 29.5" tires and such. About $150 for machining that I've found, and clutch basket and primary gear ($100 or less if you can find them) for the parts needed.

And there's clutch kits, big bore kits, 4 valve head swaps, jet kits, etc. Some people go nuts modding them. I'd say ride it first, then if you wanna change it you can.

I was hoping that you would shed some light on this. Have you finished your's yet?
