Now they are here too... Absolutely drool worthy for sure. Is there any work done to the internals of the motor?

Very cool machine if it is in fact the last survivor. Was it common practice for Team Green to weld the loop on the back of frame eliminating the grab bar? Who actually raced this machine, and where? I love history lessons.........

Racingdr.l
12-02-2010, 08:21 PM
I and Heidi Deck raced it ..........it has a quick release seat,, two pin and the seat and rear fenders are off. this Tecate has 4 aatva national races last race was in Ohio August of 1987... What do you think about the hydraulic steering on it.....cool

Yes. Very cool indeed and glad you have decided to share this machine with us. Thank you........

My 86 was said to be a team green trike when i bought it, its about identical to that except for the pipe and my rear frame is ripped off. Same seat mount, steering stab., calfab swinger, etc. I can tell you that the port work in my engine is pretty intense. The guy who put it together for me said its faster than his 87 kx250 by far. Gorgeous trike, good luck selling

Actually, my steering stabilizer is different i believe, i didn't see the same mount on yours. Where is it in there?

Racingdr.l
12-02-2010, 09:14 PM
motor work was done buy Klemm or jp i would say,,I will say klemm Research did not engrave nothing on the cylinders, we had little heat thermo stickers on the cylinder..i tried to show it in the picture....

Racingdr.l
12-02-2010, 09:16 PM
very trick,,,it is all hydraulic built in to the frame...

Steering stabilizer is inside the neck of the frame. Yes, those are Klemm Research stickers on the jug. I have them on my Klemm KX cylinder.

JP racing engraved their cylinders

12-02-2010, 10:14 PM
good old day,,,by the way we all had a little pink in are gear....we had jt or gear racewear gear...i think i still have at lot of that gear around...pink and turquoise.......Heidi lived about 5 mile away from me in a little town called Auburndale,,, she lost her dad then her mom,,and Mike Deck her brother has been in and out of trouble.. Heidi would be around 40 years old...wow..... i have been looking for Heidi for a while.

Racingdr.l
12-02-2010, 10:17 PM
That is the bike, and that is Heidi she had the number 1 plate in the woman division...

Im sorry but I was born in 1986 what is this Porterville foil I read about?

dcreel
12-02-2010, 10:46 PM
That is the bike, and that is Heidi she had the number 1 plate in the woman division...

Awesome.. The porterville foil was used for mainly tt or fast ovals, and put pressure on the front end of the bike at speed. At least that is what I remember. In the 2nd pic posted by HH it's the foil on the triple trees in place of the numberplate.

Racingdr.l
12-02-2010, 10:47 PM
the front fairing/ number plate,,, used in TT and speedway racing,,,they made 2 verison of the foil i have them both....one was a little better then the other...the foil provided down force on the front end in high speeds.. team bike were put in a wind tunnel for more speed,,,look at the front radiator fins in my pictures,,,,,,different and very trick

I apologize for stepping on your toes. You have an amazing piece of history there. When it comes to Tecate's and racing history.. I'm a sponge. But alas..a poor sponge. :-)

swampthang
12-02-2010, 10:54 PM
Could you actually tell a difference in handling with the foil on? Why are you wanting to sell this bike? I can tell you like sharing all the stories with us there has to be some attachment to this awesome machine.

Racingdr.l
12-02-2010, 11:07 PM
No problem Dcreel, you are very smart and have a lot of knowledge from the past, im sure we will meet someday.....

Back to Swampthang,, yes you could, i liked my set up to be a little loose,,Heidi like hers tighter..it was up to the rider, James would set up bike, how you wanted it... i have raced all over the world, yes there is a lot of history with this bike,,if it could only talk.. and i think it did during a desert race that ended in vegas. But, i think it might be time to let go of history, and move on

Bryan Raffa

There was a post about it on a 250R or a Tri-Z, and someone posted a test that was in one of the magazines.

There was a guy on here a few years ago that acquired a 86-87 Tecate that had this type of damper. I think he was from somewhere in the northwest. He had some very detailed pics on the workings of it. I'm trying to find the thread, but haven't had any luck yet. Very cool stuff that required actual frame mods if i remember correctly.

I just want a darn skid plate that will mount to my Cal-Fab Cant anyone point me in the right direction? Or pull it off and send it to someone to build one? Thats a sweet Tecate. Im liking that a few rare trikes have been poppin up lately. They are still out there people. Lets find them all. woo hoo

Thank you so much for showing us your awesome machine Racingdr.l! I knew that thing would have some beefy peg mounts lol- stock was so weak. I like the one piece rear frame, so cool lookin. Are the holes in the right side of the steering neck where you adjust the dampening? What rear shock is on it? If we could only peek inside the motor lol.................. Amazing- coolest thing on three wheels to me. Thanks again-

Racingdr.l
12-03-2010, 08:52 PM
ezmoney1979,,the hole in the neck are the fill and air bleed plugs,, the adjuster is in the center of the upper triple tree under the handle bars. it was made by Ram eng. the rear shock was a special made,,very trick valving KYB...you know,,keeping with the stock appearence...the engine was a very special animal.it would rip your arms off, what a joy to race,,,

dcreel
12-03-2010, 08:56 PM
I noticed it has 84 Tecate rear hubs, is the rear end 84-85 from hub to hub? The rear carrier has an extra hole on the top left side. Just curious..

Racingdr.l
12-03-2010, 09:11 PM
yes,, you are right it has a jp axle in it too...we knew from testing the 84 set up was the best,,, at the time mitchell wheels were having problem with the wide 4 wheels,, we were ripping the center out of the wheels....... the center section was stronger then the 86-87 , but you know im not sure if it is a 84 section

anytime I can. Im a fanatic.

Thanks again Racingdr.l, Sure is nice to see this machine out and about.
