Alright guys Im new to the forum and i kinda need some help on this project i started as i know not much of small engines.

I have recently come across Two Honda big reds both early 1980's.

One of them sat up for 21 years at my grandpas house.(Been sitting before i was born)
The other one Sat up for 6 years at a friends house.

After pulling the 20 year sitter out from under a tree wrapped in vines i drained the oil and cleaned the gass tank. After that i Attempted to start it up. and with one squirt of starting fluid and 1 pull it started first try. It refuses to stay running without starting fluid though. So i stopped messin with it so i wouldn't mess it up anymore than it already is.

The one that sat up for 6 years is a piece of trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro so it became a parts bike.

As i said before im new to small engines. So i need some advice on what i need to do to start this restoration project.

I do not know what to start with. If anyone can supply me with a check list on how to begin a restoration That would be absolutely great.

lol, pics? This sounds fuel related so I would do the following: change spark plug, clean/rebuild carb(could get away with a simple carb clean), check petcock, and check if gas tank lid vent isn't plugged up. It could also be low compression.

I will try to upload some pics within the next 2 days They are at my house and im not But yeah pics added in a couple of days.

Just remember I have not done anything but clean the gass tank and changed the oil to see if they would at least show a sign of life.

So i am at Square one.

First download the manual for it. I think you'll find links to downloadable manuals in the World Class Help section. You're going to have to clean the carb at least once. If it will run on starting fuel it should run when you get a fuel mixture through the carb. The manual will show you how to take the carb apart and get it back together right. Get a can of carb cleaner to spray through everything once you get it apart but read the manual first. While you have the fuel line off open the petcock and make sure that clean fuel is getting through the line. It's not a bad idea to put an small inline filter on it.

Where are you located in SC? I'm just a couple hours or so from the Spartanburg area.
