Just got a cylinder thats stock (std bore) and needs to be bored. Is the OEM Yamaha piston better than the Wiseco?
Depends on What your doing with it really.... a wiseco is lighter, stronger, and will last longer...In some case's.... but Requires a little more attention....Needs to be Set up right. If its a bone stock Z...a Stock Cast piston will work fine and wont give you any problems either.

What about those other piston kits sold on ebay? Around 50 - 60 bucks and includes everything.

I was told OEM are as good as it gets by my machinist friend. Something about the OEM pistons having a higher silicon content or something along those lines? There is nothing wrong with Wiseco though, they are great pistons for sure.

You can get overbore OEM pistons, the oem ones were made by sudco. I bought a .25 mm over for mine off ebay last year - paid about $65 shipped, and I am happy with it.

It depends on the application. For most builds from stock to mildly modified a properly setup cast piston will last the longest because of the wear pattern/expansion rate of cast alum and the fact that you can set the piston/bore clearance much tighter that forged. Now on the other end if you are running an engine that has very high port timing or severe rod angle, high compression, nitrous, ect. then forged is the way to go as they are stronger for the job.
