hello-I bought this 185 for the grand kids when they come to visit. I'm having two problems with it, (so far).
1. It's almost impossible to start with the pull rope but if I pull start it with my lawn tractor it will start right away and run fine.
2. After running it awhile the engine started to speed up by itself. If I turn the switch off and then on again before it stalls, it will be OK for a while then it will do it again. Any ideas.

There are a few things that could cause the hard starting.

Is the choke working?

Do you know how to check the clearance on the rockers? If the valves are not properly adjusted it will be tough to start.

You may have a vacuum leak somewhere causing the high idle, but you may want to take the carb apart to clean and lube everything.

It's good to see people getting the younger generation on trikes. Just make sure the grandkids wear their helmet and are properly educated on riding an ATV. The last thing trikes need is more bad press.

:welcome:

The choke lever is working but I can't tell what it's doing inside the carb. I'll probably take the carb off and clean it etc. As far as the valves go, I don't know how to check clearance on them. I'm trying to find a service manual for it which I hope will explain it. Thanks for your help.

You got any pics of the 185? They are a fairly incommon machine, only made one year I believe. I also suggest cleaning the carb using carb cleaner, and compressed air. Good luck

Nice! but make sure you grand kids treat it right. Like said before they were only made for one year 86 obviously lol and not all that popular(didn't have time to sell any real numbers) Yours is in excellent condition:D All I'm say'in try to keep it that way.

P.s. I with mine looked that good....oh well, at least my 185 is safe in the garage now:TrikesOwn

Thanks for the pics! I really like the unique look of the klt 185. That headlight really sets it off, and no other has that one. Do you have the rear fenders? I hope you can figure out the problem. If any other questions arise, dont be afraid to ask. We are a group of friendly 3 wheeled enthusiasts here after all. I knew right away that fabio was going to say trailpros. lol Good luck!

Yes, I have the rear fenders but they are pretty beat up. I took them off to clean up the frame a bit. I'm waiting on a service manual I bought to tell me how to adjust the valves. Hope that helps with the starting problem.
