For those of you that aren't up to date on my ride and the story behind it here's a link to the original thread.

http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthread.php?91945-I-finally-found-one!!&highlight=

edog, this if for you big daddy!!! ;)

If the mods would like me to keep this on the original thread just let me know and I will do so.

I came home tonight thinking I would be able to finally start this thing after purchasing it some 22 months ago. I was very cautious and careful with everything I was doing while putting on the new tank for fear of messing something up. Every move was done with care. After connecting the fuel line and triple checking every possible thing I could think of I decided it was time to see if it was worth it. I poured a small amount of fuel into the tank and slowly turned the petcock to reserve while checking for fuel leaks.....nothing. Whew!

It took about 20-25 kicks until I heard something that sounded like a piston firing. (I knew the carb would need some tuning when I got done) A couple of more kicks and it hit for a couple of seconds. Again, a couple of more kicks and it idled for a few seconds. This is good. Knew we were on the right track. A couple more kicks and we had official lift off.

I got the motor to settle into a smooth idle and stepped back to take a look. The engine was smoking from the Marvel Mystery oil that was in the cylinder. I figured I was good there in a few minutes.

I killed it and started it a few times not running up the rpms much at all. She's been sleeping a long time and I wanted to gently wake her up. After several minutes of idle I decided to run down the road and back to see what we had. Just shifted into second gear and probably didn't even see 2k on the tach. Not ready for that yet.

Got back and the smoke was gone. Idle was great. I couldn't believe this thing was sitting there purring like it was after sitting for almost 20 years in exile. My hat is off to Honda. They did a great job building this product.

I can honestly say I feel like it's the fall of 1986 again, I'm 17 years old, and this thing just came to me off the showroom floor. I am just as excited now, if not more so, than I could have been then. The wait was more than worth it. While running it down the road I felt like I was on a brand new machine. In a small way it was like a time warp. The smile is just as big now as it would have been then. Something tells me it's probably a little more appreciated at this point in my life.

I have a little more cleaning I want to do on my rear fenders before taking any pics of the finished product. Be patient, they will be posted.

I have to go back downstairs to start it again and hear it run. I'll check back later. :)

DC, if it makes you feel any better, the urge to jump it on my part is pretty big. Restraint is going to be very tough in that dept. I keep reminding myself that the YFZ is sitting right there and I can unload my urges on it anytime I feel the need.

I will tell you she felt very light and smooth on my shake down cruise last night. Much smoother than my quad. I'm starting to see what I missed out on 25 or so years ago. :(

Haven't been able to do any cleaning to justify the pics yet. They will come.

Read the thread I linked to. That pretty much explains all. It wasn't in running condition when I purchased it. Just now got around to finishing everything on the tank is the short version.

Took it out in the woods by the house and got some pics today. Still not clean like I wanted it to be.

The flaws that still need attention are as follows. The outer heat shield for the exhaust is not on in these pics. I have some OEM hardware on order to properly install it.

The head pipe has some baked on mud/rust that won't come off. This will be sent off for blasting and black hot coating.

I still need to order the warning decals for the back of the tank.

I still need to clean the light brown mud stains off the rear fenders.

Here's the latest product.

You're about 2-2.5 away. Go through Springfield all the time on the way to Lake of the Ozarks. I may be mistaken, but I think there might be some nice riding areas between the two of us we could meet at too.

You call that 'not clean'? Beautiful trike, all head pipes seem to do that.
