84 Honda 200s. I'm having issues with idleing. It will run great with a little throttle but won't idle long and "coughs" so to speak. New plug, New carb, Pilot @ 2 1/4 turns as Honda manual says and still the same issue. Reset valves and compression release and still no change. Pulled carb and checked the float and is correct at .550" as Honda manual says. Checked for air leaks an all seems good. Fuel flow is as expected from a gravity feed unit too. I have not checked compression but it does not smoke at all and feels to have good compression while pull starting it. Anyone have any suggestions?

Try turning the piolet screw in some. Factory is just a basic starting point if you will. There is no "set" tuning for the bikes. Espicially being over 25 years old.
I am having heck with mine right now, i'm having the coughing thing horribly. Good luck.

Tried that too. I was wondering about the timing chain. Would it be possible for it to finally be stretched enough that the cams could have timing slop and over shoot "closed" therefore causing the cough when it fires? It does have just a bit of chain rattle at idle. The tentioner is set as the manual says also.
