I have a xr200 carb on my '85. At first it had insane high idle, and would not cease with any adjustment of idle screw. Come to find, the piolet screw was almost all the way out. So i tightened it up, then 1 3/4 turns out and it ran a little better. Still high idle, but a lot better.
After it warmed up, it died. Now it blows tons of white smoke, and sputters and will die if i let off the throttle. With the stock carb, it runs great. Main is a 98 in the stock, so i removed it and put it in the xr carb.
Any ideas would be greatly appriciated, thanks!

No one? Not even a theory on the smoking?
The carb is one of the chinese knock off's, but is extremely similar to the honda. The only difference is the secondary jet.

If anyone know's anything about these, i can't find any secondary jets. Here is a link to a "main" but it looks like my piolet jet, and the sizes are the size's i would need.

This is just an upgrade. It run's perfectly with the stock carb.

I had a terrible time tuning those EBAY knock offs. Even going to stock settings and on from there........
The jets are harder to find but they are available at SUDDCO or MrCycles.......

I can not find crud for the secondaries. I'm thinking i might just have to find a way to clean up the old xr carb. It's all there, but i can't get the piolet to function, much like this one. I'll mess with them some more tomorrow. One more question, could the wrong main cause the idleing to malfunction? I know it has a trickle affect, but that much?
thanks

I yanked the chinese carb and found that the secondary had come unscrewed. I'm not going to use it because there is no jets that i can find to buy. I put my other one back in, and i think it's running really rich, because of the white smoke. (I did get the other carb to stop with the smoking, after adjusting the idle screw) I am going to adjust the idle screw on the xr carb tomorrow, hopefully that will help. I also plan on getting a plug, to do a chop test. Can anyone tell me a good decent priced plug to run in a 200x?
Any imput on any of this is appriciated.

Idle screws affect idle. You sure you don't mean the airscrew underneath the front of the carb?
If you don't know an idle screw from an air screw, good luck on the plug chops........
Those jets are all available at the places I posted.
What does the book say to run? It's a BR7 or something; Download the book, buy that plug. LOTS of them.

Yes, i was talking about the pilot screw. Dirt crasher, i have built this motor from first gear up. If you want to infer i am incapable of learning how to tune a carburetor, then you just should not post a reply. That was completely unnecessary. And no, i did not find any of the jet's for anything aside from a keihin and a minuki carb on those sites. Mine does not take the same jet's as those.

You said idle screw!! So yes, your sounded inferior and I have the same carb; If you meant "air screw" how was I supposed to know? and the jets are available at the places I posted above which you chose to ignore, I'm sorry, your right, throw it away the jets are not available............

I always thought that white smoke was burning oil and black smoke was burning too much gas or the air/gas mixture was too rich. Bit I could be mistaken.

Dirt crasher, I'm sorry i did not type the right words?? And i am not ignoring it. If you would like me to send you a picture of the jet i need, and you find it on there, be my guest. I spent about half an hour looking for it and could not find it. Just because i messed up ''VERBALLY" does not reflect my ability mechanically.
And rick, maybe it is. But when i put my stock carb back on the smoke ceased completely. Maybe the carb just had a bunch of dirt or something in it?
