View Full Version : How can I get more amps out of my charging coil?

I recently wired up a 100 watt foglight to my ATC110. I am capable of rewinding the lighting coil. My question is, I do not want to run a battery, so how can I get more amps for running the light, or running a small air compressor?

Going off HVAC school 7 years ago:

Volts x Amps = Watts, you need more Amps.

E = I x R or Volts = Amps x Resistance (OHMMS)

It would seem that decreasing resistance would increase amps as volts is fixed by the stator.

How do you decrease resistance? The longer the wire, the lower the resistance. Or, more turns around the field would decrease resistance.

I imagine the thicker the wire the resistance would be lower also as it can carry more Amps.

Sorry, now I'm as confused as you :lol:

Thanks for the reply. I figure if I use 32 gauge magnet wire and 400 feet of it, I will get 4,000 volts output at mA. But if I use 10 gauge wire and 10 feet, what will I get??
